The map

Hi Odin

I have such map, but I can’t post it, when I’m trying to post reply with attachment, server refuses, blank clear page newreply.psp. appears and nothing else, the same problem with private messages. So if you really want it, send me PM with your e-mail address and I’ll mail it to you.

Could you perhaps get it to Spooky's site?

Now isn't that gamey ;)?

In the old PacWar the display of TF routes has been deleted because it made it too easy to position your subs at the right places, leading to very 'distorted' (not to say 'ahistorical' :p) results. Playing wargames is suffering from hindsight more than enough already...

(walking away with a feeling of superiority... :D)

Umh, err... well, okay - could you send me the map, too? I have a tough opponent who has sunk everything but my subs...

I was thinking about not so much as a "gamey" issue - but just the result of an organised staff that has done its research on the enemy capabilities...

(like the Zero range circles from rabaul and truk I have on my map ;) )
I'm essentially graphically and history oriented, unfortunately to connect the two I have to do maths. I hate maths.

Actually this is not a map, this is list of hexes, made as a map. Of course usage of such ‘maps’ is way too gamey, submarines disposition according this map along a convoy route Truk-Lunga allow to eliminate 8 of 10 transports in convoy before victim TF reach its destination, all depends on how much subs participate in slaughter. But it’s gamish only if you’re challenging AI. If you are playing vs human, all template tactics must be thrown away, it’s the straightest way to be defeated early.

One of my opponents was using (better say using wrong) analog of this map and paid for this. He has placed all his subs along these routes with expectations of bloody massacre. I've noticed this (subs were sitting in the same hexes for too long time and were spotted by air patrols) precautionary measures were undertaken. It took a week for him to realize that only strong ASW groups of skilled destroyers use these routes. They had sunk 5 subs in 6 days with no losses. My real convoys were shambling slightly to the east or slightly to the west from the obvious routes, using unpredictable zigzag routes.

This map was useful before 2.30 came out, with reworked sub warfare engine it is almost useless now, at least against human. No need for calculation of a right hexes. If you’re playing vs AI and afraid of being seduced by this map – put your subs on computer control.

btw, LST you can easily make this map yourself ;), it is very primitive, but if you prefer not to waste your time on such ‘gamey’ tricks you have to tell me your e-mail address

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the address can be found in my user profile. It's Taffy-03@gmx.net :D Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Subchaser, if I'm not mistaken your location (52° 49" N, 41° 28" W) translates into the North Atlantic area south of Cape Farvel/Greenland and east of Cape Race/Newfoundland. Where are you, on the Titanic? :D

No Titanic is quite far from this place, coordinates - 41*46” N 50*14” W. Less famous ship is rusting down here at 52*49” N 41*28” W.

btw, I sent it

Got the map, thank you!

Does this less famous ship has a name? There must be dozens of wrecks rusting in that part of the Atlantic, so it is difficult to tell...

Name of the ship was “Captain Wordhard”, this transport vessel from CQ-6/3 convoy was successfully torpedoed by U-572 on 28 march 1942 at 52°49” N 41°28” W. This craft became famous back in 1998 because of unclear story with CIA unofficial financial sources and “Glomar Explorer” program.
