HC HQ in Berlin is, ummmm- unique!

Perhaps downright odd...

HC in Berlin is home to F.M von Brauchitsch.

Looking at Unit Troops, you will find 250 German General Staff, no German Infantry, but 1650 Italian Infantry and 800 Hungarian Infantry.

Further, under Unit Details, you will find Repl Sent Out (for that turn I believe). AFAIK, this appears in no other HQ.

Useful info in a game of Barbarossa Jeopardy with Alex Trebac! [:D]

German replacement troops and equipment go out in 'waves,' something like every ten turns. The HQ in Berlin shows the numbers sent out. It's simply a mechanism used by the game system, so players can see what's going on. Not intended as a historical HQ.

So are you saying the Italians and Hungarians are the next turn's replacements?

Hi,

OKW isn't shown in the game as there is little point in having an additional HQ level beyond the five levels of command that are represented already. You could consider OKW to be part of High Command which also encompasses the top political level of command.

F.M von Brauchitsch is there, rather than OKH. This isn't historical but as previously mentioned elsewhere to model the historical reality would have been impractical and unplayable. It was a mess. The formal command structure bore little reality to the practical one - the one where the power lay.

Von Brauchitsch was heavily influenced by Hitler (and eventually pushed aside and replaced by Hitler in late '41) and had very little scope for independent thought and action (whether this was because of von B himself, his failing health, his financial indebtedness to Hitler or other factors is hard to judge). Hence he's in High Command as the Player's inmmediate superior but one who is largely ineffectual.

High Command, by the way, isn't a made up term. It was a common term used by Franz Halder himself in his diaries. Not always in positive terms.

Replacements arrive in their historical 'waves'. They come from the ZI, the Zone Interior, and are required to originate from an HQ in order for the game to recognise them. Rather than have a five different extra HQ's - one for each nationality, scattered all over the western portion of the map, they are sent to HC in Berlin and gradually pushed forward to the front over time. Having them all in one spot makes it easier to manage and easier for a player to see what's going on.

Cheers,
Cameron
