[FIXED v1.11 / DB v442] Random start positions?

Post by PoorOldSpike »

Hi guys, when placing an enemy ship in the editor, is there an option to make it appear randomly within a big chunk of sea when the game starts, so that we won't know where it is and have to hunt it down?

Yes. The simplest and earliest way is:

-Make a group of reference points. If not already highlighted, select them.
-Go to the event editor
-Set a trigger for the start of the scenario plus one second.
-Make the action teleport the unit that you want to the location somewhere in the group of reference points.
-In the briefing, include a warning "Allow the game to run for a few seconds before giving orders to units, as there's a teleport".

(You can also use "Scenario is loaded", but that can be too instantaneous, especially if you're working on the scenario a bit at a time.).

i would avoid using "when scenario is loaded" for this. It will randomly place the ship even after the scenario has started, for example when reloading a save game, etc. Much better to use a time trigger.

I'm pretty certain we fixed this a while ago.

EDIT: We fixed this by providing a "Scenario Has Started" condition. So the shuffling can happen once before the start of the scenario, and the on subsequent save-resumes the game will notice that the scenario has already started and will not re-shuffle again.

Thanks guys, (incidentally I'm a veteran of the Harpoon, Fleet Command and Dangerous Waters naval sims going back years)
A few more questions-

1- In CMANO I can't seem to find any actual photos of units in their databases, just a lot of dry weapon/sensor data etc. Aren't there any photos, and if not, is there a mod to add them?

2- The Stylized unit icons are small and squiggly, is there a mod to make them bigger and chunkier?

3- When zoomed way in, the mile scale changes to yards; is there a mod to make it easier to understand at a glance with- "1 mile, 3/4 mile, 1/2 mile, 1/4 mile" instead?

PS- In fact are there any other various mods for all sorts of things that you can recommend?

Poor Old Spike, pictures and descriptions is possible download from Warfaresims site (not yet for all units). There you will find also Community Scenario Pack and Map Overlays for some scenarios.

Spike, no problem[;)], if you want images in database, then you need to download this package and unpack it into the "yours Command folder\DB\" ("yours Command folder" is folder, where you have Command installed, for example my is "d:\Install\Command")

Similar as before, for descriptions: download Descriptions package and unpack it into the "yours Command folder\DB\"

For new scenarios you need download "Community Scenario Pack" and unpack it into the "yours Command folder\Scenarios\Community\" (if do not have "Community" folder in the "Scenarios" folder, then create it manually).

And a shameless plug for the images/descriptions team: We are hoping to publish an update package to the current images/descriptions sometime around 1 January 2016

Fixed DB v442 (for v1.11, not 1.10).
