No turn from John this morning. [:(] He reported it was crashing during replay yesterday. Advised him to have three separate installs for his games. Thus, a screenshot this morning of South China. There was activity here for some time, but since I pulled out of the exposed bases, there isn't even any recon flights. I've soaked up 3900 in Chinese Rifle Squad replacements here and within the two Corps in India.

The turn took a few days to run due to technical problem with both of us. John had the game crash while running turn, so we had to redo each set of orders. When I finally got it, I had a sync problem when KB moved SE to be 7 hexes NE of base. However, everybody's favorite part of the game had each of our CV TF 'react' 2 hexes to only be 3 hexes apart. [:(] Of course, this move gets my CV out from the protection of 275 fighters. [:@] I'm posting the CR for the turn as it often shows things in a different light.

Was the 40% of your carrier fighters available for escort insufficient to provide for a strike in the face of so many of his fighters.

Was the escort to CAP ratio so unfavorable that yours wouldn't fly?

Could be a blessing in disguise as you may have suffered an even worse beating at the hands of his CAP.

Did you start in the base hex before the 2 hex reaction? Is your base CAP set to zero range?

Puzzling choice. It certainly concentrates your cap, but putting your carriers in a port hex reduces flight ops by 50%.

My choice would have been to park the carriers one hex outside the port with the port CAP set to a range of 1.

How did those USA fighters get involved here? What were their settings? Given the fact you had some of your USA fighters covering the fleets Mangareva already, getting another 21 planes aiding in CAP here seems pretty damn good considering the supposed coordination penalty using LBA to cover CV TFs.

My line of thought before the battle. I've been in favor of survivability for my American CVs for some time. Understanding that Japan gets more at start and then through '44 its CV/CVL strength allows it to be superior to even with Allies for longer than stock and many mods (current it is 9 CV, 8 CVL, 3 CVE for Japan vs 6 CV, 2 CVL, 8 CVE for Allies with 2 of those 6 CVs on way to SE Pac). Thus, I took off one of two SBDs squadrons (those four SBD groups are further west at Rapa and could be exchanged as needed) and replaced with another fighter group for my 4 American CVs to get another 72 fighters. Second, I had placed some hope in my 75 P-39s, 75 P-40s, and almost 50 P-38s to protect the base and the close-by SC TFs in Patrol Zones one or two hexes north of base (two small DD TF, CL based TF, and CA based TF). They were set at 50% CAP and 10% Rest with range at 2.

This mod uses the latest DBB air data and to this point, they have more than held their own against Zeros and Tojo (John has limited his air force in Burma/India because of this). The P-38s have been very deadly on sweeps at 34k (some groups in Burma/India have gotten 10:1 or greater kill ratios even when outnumbered 2:1). I stood down my strike aircraft and set the fighters at 50% CAP at 12k. I figured if I set up my CVs to have my own strikes ready, they would get decimated and put my forces at greater risk on day two. I have over 200 ships at Mangareva and they couldn't have made it to eastern map edge safely once KB was spotted. I was hoping that 575 fighters would do well vs KB.

CVE TF - leader qualities are 71 Naval and 49 Aggressive.

He now has three PBEM games with the resumption of his two years old game vs Canoerebel (Dan), multiple AARs, a family, and managing Subway. For me, my other game vs 1EyedJack is on temporary hiatus until sometime after the New Year due to his work project that is keeping him away from home during week for three months (Nov thru Jan).

At least I can sent John turns directly as my internet provider, Charter, has fixed the problem of not allowing me to use attachments with John.

No CAP trap from CVs. See screen shot for planned invasions. I had used PBYs to move troops to small dot base. I have invasions planned for other bases before taking Tahiti. Didn't want Ms Nell or Ms Betty to get lucky and get a few TT hits on some large warships. John could have really hurt me if he had stayed hidden up north for another week to 10 days.

Nope. I did re-send the game file to John as test and he just told me that he thought it was the next turn. At least it went through!! Found the two files this morning on my work email that he sent me last night before 8pm. Thus, it will have to wait to tonight to be played. However, I did pull up the actual game file briefly to see the carnage. It looks like I had 2 CAs and 4 SCs sunk and NO more damage to CVs. [&o] KB has split in two and gone away for now.

What an emotional roller coaster ride that must have been for John.

Four times he cheered as his bad boy surface raiders encountered a CV TF only to be deflated each time with no shell hit.

Major, major pucker factor for our Allied hero though.
