I think only three Unryus were truly completed, and the Aso wasn't one of them. It appears that Cannonfodder's production levels are much better than the Japanese historical.

I hadn't been paying good attention to the goings on here. Next turn, P-38s can shepherd the bombers in. Fuel must be getting tight there, and CF is resorting to using transports to ship it in. My guys have been training for months on end, so it's good to see the hits.

Short term out west, I'll probably be grabbing Addu before too long. Naval search can cover Diego from that point better. Landings in the Gilberts will be happening sooner rather than later. I'm now yanking out a bunch of excess base troops from Baker.

Yorktown's been on map from Panama for the last two days. CVL Bataan left Panama the day before. I'll have a reasonably credible carrier group out of Pearl soon. I sent a group of CVEs to Christmas from Pearl to help cover the Gilbert action. I'll still have something like 12 of them left at Pearl Harbor.

I think low level port attacks are probably not the wisest idea. Yes you got bomb hits but you should know that you can get hits pretty easily with mid level level bombing against disbanded ships without having to expose yourself to heavy flak.

It looks like KB is pulling up stakes and shipping out. They're sighted SW of DG, heading east. It looks like all the support ships also pulled out.

I can re-take that at my leisure once my Ceylon supply situation is fixed.

I'll need to move quickly with the Gilberts before they can interfere.

How long to move from Diego Garcia to Tarawa? Ten days? Two weeks? And he'll probably have some significant wear and tear. You should get some naval ops ready in the Indian theater so you could launch them if KB is confirmed in the Central Pacific after a while. He can only defend one place at a time with that kind of strength.

Yeah, I should have some time to make a Gilberts landing. My CVEs arrived at Christmas, so I have some cover for this.

Once KB is clear of the Indian Ocean, and my supply situation firmed up at Colombo, Diamond Harbor is my next target. Punching through at Cocanada isn't working and I don't want to throw more troops into that hell-hole. I've nearly enough prep to launch this, and I'm not worried about the army medium bombers he may have around. I'll be very heavy with air anyway.

I can't pass this up. DH and Calcutta are fairly weakly held each. If I can grab Calcutta quickly, the troops at Cocanada and Vizagapatnam will be under added stress. I would love to drop them directly on Calcutta, but the river isn't big enough. I'm still getting intel of him prepping for Nagpur, but I can probably resist there for awhile. Hopefully this will all become moot.

Either way, it will still take a lot of time to purge the IJA from India.

Forgot to mention...

The USA 6th Division got finished off a few days ago at Roi-Namur. I do have a fragment at Pearl that didn't make the landing and it's already at 10% strength.

I was going to do my Gilberts move on a shoestring with commercial shipping, but after thinking about it, I've got the good assault transports, carriers and everything else heading to Christmas Island. I'll do this correctly with sufficient cover and support for everybody.

The 11th East African Division is two days out from Addu. None are spotted yet. Three days of airfield pounding looks to have shut down all the air search there. I know I killed at least three Emilys. The 24s have flipped over to ground attack for the last two days before the landings. A USMC defense battalion plus a base unit will move in once it's clear. I'll get them sent out next turn.

I'll probably make my move to Diamond Harbor when Addu wraps up. The landing there should be a quick clean affair, the only unknown is how much the land based air decides to interfere. That won't get through my cover. Once Calcutta's mine, I'll have more options on the strategic side of things. Pretty much all my US divisions are dedicated to this, Army and Marines plus lots of armor.

Colombo's supplied now with 230k at Colombo and sufficient quantities trickling to the other bases. About another 110k are enroute and should be on-map in 4-5 days. At this point all my cargo ships at Cape Town are at sea. A bunch more are arriving from the states.

KB could be anywhere at this point. I'm guessing anywhere from Singapore to Soerabaja.

I've been mum on this lately due to the embarrassment of attacking this island without the necessary prep level. I didn't need the lectures about this basic infantry need. It took several days of heavy bomber visits along with a pair of battleship visits to knock them down sufficiently.

Base forces were standing a day off and are now heading to unload there, while the invading troops are embarking back to Colombo.

Wahoo goes down near Formosa.

The new sub, Cobia shows up in Panama. This sub is a bit special to me as she currently resides about 40 miles away in Manitowoc, WI, open for tours. Before the Iwo Jima invasion, she sunk a transport enroute to there carrying a load of tanks.

Another CVE shows up in Portland. I'm up to my armpits in them right now and have even been using a few for convoy escort to the Samoa area.

I tried an attack on Cocanada the previous day, but they were bloodily repulsed. I have about a 2.5-1 advantage in raw AV, but can't get good odds on them there. With about a hundred fighters in Vizagapatam, I can't really start an air campaign without a lot of blood being shed. As soon as I recover everybody from the Addu thing, I'll kick off the Diamond Harbor invasion. Prep is nearly maxed out on those troops.

Related, I've sent about 15 subs from Colombo to cover Calcutta and northern Malaya.

15 March - Addendum

Forgot to mention...

Troops at Christmas Is are loading up to hit Tabiteuea.  Once they've cleared the island, more amphibs will load up with base forces for there and some of the non-conquered dot bases around that island. A division, armor and arty are involved.

I'm guessing the Diamond Harbor invasion will start loading within three days or so.

My first B-29 squadron arrives in Aden in about a week.  First mission will be somewhere with probably no CAP.  I'm thinking about the oil at Rangoon.  Can't remember if there's refineries there.  I don't know if I'll have the range, but the docks at Singapore would be promising, too.

With the Tabiteuea invasion on the way, follow-on base forces for there, Arorae and Makin are also loading up for deployment. I can surround Tarawa before finally hitting there.

The first few divisions enroute for Diamond Harbor are now underway. A follow-on force of more using more commercial-type transport are also following behind. Some of the support TFs have a low detection level on them (1/3)

My B-29s are 4 days from arrival. Plotting the ranges, I can easily hit Rangoon's refineries once they're set up. Bunches of B-24s are deployed to Bezwada to start pounding the troops at Diamond Harbor a couple days before landing. I don't want to give that away too soon.

I'm wondering if KB will decide to interfere in the Gilberts or in India. In the east, I'm willing to take my lumps with them if I can take some with me. The way he's running his air production, I kind of want to decide things before he starts putting A7Ms on board.

Lexington's about 6 days from arrival, with another CVE before that coming in.

Onwards...

Both invasion fleets are sighted now. It's still a ways towards their destinations, since they're moving at a paltry 4 hexes per turn. An IJN sub took a shot at a destroyer in the Gilberts force and missed. Combat report showed a bunch of destroyers plus New Jersey.

I took a shot at a destroyer in one of his convoys near Nadi. Seadragon got roughed up for her trouble, but not massive damage. Enough for work though. They're in port there now. My B-25s at Vava'u didn't attack, but they were set at 10 hexes instead of the needed 13. I've got them ready to hit next turn and P-38s will escort them in.

My transports finally unloaded the Africans at Colombo and need a day's repair work. After that, some LCU fragments and follow-on forces will continue to Diamond harbor. Recon's showing 600 troops there now, but Calcutta now spiked from 10,000 to 64,000. I'm guessing a sizable number of them are base forces, as he has something like 400 aircraft based there right now. I'm moving some base units to DH behind the invaders so I can get some air cover up right away.

My first B-29 unit arrived at Aden and are packing up for Karachi. Too bad I don't have AKVs there anymore. I plan on having fun with them.

Almost there...

The Diamond Harbor invaders are two days out from their target. CF's been taking a hellacious amount of Betty kills with his air searches. The dive bomber scouts have been lighting up a bunch of his subs to the SE of my convoy. A good sized pack of about 4-5. I do have at least one ASW group with the bunch, and destroyers aplenty are with the rest. Two of his subs are west of Colombo also.

My subs in Malacca Strait had an interesting encounter.

Cero took a shot at Mogami, but missed. She has 10 sys, but I'll leave her here as things are picking up a bit. I'm guessing there could be carriers involved here, with the CS types present. Step One.

Landings went on at Tabiteuea, and despite some heavy losses on landing, I did take the island rather easily. I was holding my breath a bit. I just took the base, and his troops are still on the island. Hopefully, they'll die next turn.

The Diamond Harbor force is one day away. My naval air decided to hit his shipping at Calcutta and it wasn't pretty. I've stood down the attack planes for now.

Some of my carriers are hit, but not overly badly. They're all withdrawing now. My battleship and cruiser groups are speeding out, hoping to catch his carriers in a night action. Let's see if there's still one left in me. Most of my LCUs are ashore and are attacking this turn. The enemy LCU count at Calcutta dropped to 10,000 again, so who knows at this point. Hopefully, I don't sacrifice too many ships to pull this off. My carrier air has taken a big hit, and I'm not sure they have enough to effectively strike back at his ships.

All my heavy bombers in India are on naval attack. Sort of a desperate move, but you never know. With numbers, I may get lucky. Two more B-29 squadrons showed up at Aden and are enroute.

Looks extremely weak for the number of CVs, CVLs and CVEs I can see in the CR. What settings are you using for CAP?

PS. Why are you flying kittens in 44? With PDU ON you can fly Hellcats and Corsairs even from CVEs. The Kitten is so outdated by now you shouldn´t use it at all on the frontlines and even less so on CV/CVL/CVEs The Frances is actually faster then the Kitten if I remember correctly?
