New Here

Post by PickleMan2135 »

Hi, everyone. I recently purchased Advanced Tactics Gold, and I'd like to try a multiplayer game. I was wondering if there's any kind of primer on the forum somewhere about how multiplayer works for this game. My only experience with PBEM is Dominions 4, and that's got a fan-made server set up to handle the nitty-gritty parts of PBEM, so it would be great if someone could explain how this all works or point me to the right place.

Thanks.

First, welcome to ATG! It is a great game and has the best random game creation engine of any game I'm personally aware of.

Most ATG PBEMers use Dropbox these days for the transfer of turns. ATG is not available on the Slitherine PBEM++ game server so it is either Dropbox or email. One person creates a Dropbox folder to hold the turns and then shares that folder with the other players. Works well. When creating your game within ATG be sure to set the Passwords option. If you want to be notified that a player opened his turn more than once, set the PBEM Protection. If you fully trust your opponent not to cheat then you leave this option not checked and you will be able to save your turn in progress and come back to it later. Nice if you can do it so that if your wife/girlfriend needs your attention you can save and return later to finish your turn.

If you would like, I can create a practice game. I will make it small and simple and won't care who wins. We would just use it for you to learn the process.

If you email me at chaim@chaim.com, I can set up a shared folder on Dropbox.

Awesome! I expected this to be a much slower board based on the post history. I'll look through the info, as I haven't seen it before.
