set up a match, i'll play ya. i'll take axis, as I don't have lot of experience on the axis side, plus you will learn the most from the allied side, IMO.

in fact, you should set up a few matches, maybe you can get a few other ppl to play ya. its a reasonably short scenario and a good one to learn on, if you play a few matches side by side you can see the different results from different actions

well in short scenarios like this, you have to work the VP system. have you looked at the map where the VPs are located? also most of these scenarios the early VPs stack up for the defender, but if you look at the VP charts, who holds the final VPs gets a big bump, so usually that's where the attacker gains the most

you should have attacked toward Catania last turn. and use your mobile forces to move ahead and take the easy ground to the north or west

if possible, use your infantry to do the hard fighting.

have you attached support units ? engineers to units that will be taking fortified areas.

also remember - armor does not do well in rough ground - hills and mountains - their attack value is halved in those terrain

one more thing - you need ports to get supply across - make it a priority to capture (and repair) ports after an amphibious invasion

I looked in the manual and I don't see how to check the status of a port and how to repair - How do you do this?

Look at section 21.2.4.1 in the manual, you'll find an explanation on port and railyard repair there.

so the only big things I noticed in our match is you need to prioritize and then concentrate your attacks. you had 2 stacks attacking two different targets and failed in both. if you woulda moved the one stack to support the other I think you woulda won the one large battle. make sure you have about a 3:1 ratio in attack power. air support helps on that ratio if needed. and if you are attacking across a river then you will want more like a 5:1 ratio


also good recon allows you to move your units to their fullest extent. you could have taken Catania on turn 2 or even turn 3 if you attack immediately, but by turn 4 I had it well garrisoned and the adjacent hexes were strong as well. now its too late I am afraid

also one more thing - are your naval TFs being used to support attacks on coastal hexes? you can move your TF, do the attack, then move the TF back to the landing zone to keep your beachhead port intact.

I am always learning new stuff. this game is simple enough to grasp the basics, yet so complex to master, and sometimes you forget basic stuff because you are thinking so much of the complex details.

terrain must always be considered in most every battle - both offensively and defensively

the supply system I am still trying to come to grips with. I have a general understanding but there is so much to consider I often forget portions of it
