Based on course, which at the end of the day is east, this is a breakout attempt. Good thing they were intercepted by our next destroyer flotilla on station. Now they are heading for the shipping lanes, but those are momentarily empty. They should come within range of torpedo armed bombers at Jesselton or Cam Ranh Bay or both. Dutch DD Kortenaer will be passing by Jesselton and might engage as well. Shannon's DDs will try and catch them before heading back to Saigon to replenish. All except DD Pringle, which will head straight back to get in line for dry dock.

The 1st Aus Para Bn, the ones who seized the base at Probolinggo, are now moving out to Djokjakarta. In concert with movements by other units, that position will cut off Soerabaja from the rest of the island.

I'm figuring on two days (turns) from now to begin loading the Okinawa invasion forces. At the same time we'll sort out the various warship task forces. All of those are at Guam to make that easy.

It will be nice when all those jungle pockets are actually cleared. They are distracting... Though probably they take little of your time, it's us readers that perceive them a bigger entity than they are in truth.
I agree - they take up resources. A bunch of resources got freed up when those pockets became contained or near enough, and even more as each one is destroyed.

Now if only this pace can be kept, then we can have a nice christmas present in the form of an Okinawa invasion. I know, I know not going to happen. but it sure would be cool [:D]

The landing craft moving into the area are only lightly escorted, so we'll have to scare up some ASW forces somehow. The next attack at Lang Son is tomorrow, except for that one TD Bn that is so badly disrupted.

All of the action in the South China Sea was shown above in the sub section. They still haven't spotted those oilers unloading at Kuching with only 2x DE in attendance. I figured that the shorter range Dutch squadron would need fuel there. I suppose the remaining destroyers will, until they are sent off on ASW escort duty, which they are better suited for at this point in the war. Maybe they will move to Haiphong instead of Kuching.

We formed one more invasion convoy for Okinawa and about half of another, both from combinations of assault ships and beaching craft. The convoy for USA 6th ID needs roughly 7,000 more tons of troop space. All invasion convoys will load now. When the 6th ID is fully or near fully loaded, a separate LST convoy will form to carry the troops that don't fit in the first convoy. They will be especially fatigued and disrupted, but there will be no need for the Allies to attack right away at Naha. There might be an adjustment needed for the two amphibious engineer tractor units (they help other units unload faster) because of tight space, but otherwise...

All LCUs assigned for Naha and Nago are now combat loading.

BB Wisconsin has arrived and is on her pay to Pearl Harbor in company of a new CL. Much time spent on expanded air groups. We must have more bases!

Yes I have found I have a load of air units sitting waiting for space to open up to deploy them to the front. Despite losing far more airplanes than I should have done I still have plenty to queue to wait for new bases and air support to set up.

My fighter pilot training programs are keeping up, but bomber pilot pools are pretty thin. To preserve the fighter pilots for what I presume will be a massive volume of close in work, I added rookies to most of the expanded fighter squadrons and put them on training. That way the most important front line squadrons can still draw on high quality replacements. Likewise with the bombers. I saved a couple of USMC F & DB squadrons filled out with fully trained pilots from the pool for possible quick deployment to Okinawa.

There are also various places where I was careful not to add aircraft because it would put the base over one limit or another and impede getting aircraft into the air on missions.

Not a problem to complain about at all, just one to balance against the clock running out in the contest. Even though we are close to Japan there is much strong resistance to overcome.

Here is the way I am using that spreadsheet. I hid enough columns so it would print one page wide so I can use it as a checklist. For a checklist I need to see the unit, where it is, what target it is for, how much troop and equipment capacity to put in the TF, and the minimum number of ships to get it unloaded fast.

When I made the TFs two turns ago I wrote down the assigned TF number for each unit on the sheet plus gave the TF a name with the LCU's name (thank you Michael for adding the TF name feature so long ago!), and sent each TF off to the LCU location.

Today I just had to go down the list at each base and load each LCU on the correct TF. I put a mark next to each as it loaded so I can see that I didn't miss any.

Multiple days of rest will be required again, but getting 1 to 1 plus a fortification reduction on the second attack is very encouraging. Lao Cai suddenly has only 1 enemy unit and a few hundred troops. It appears that a massive evacuation airlift has succeeded right under out noses! OK, right under my nose. Our forces attack tomorrow.

The 7th and 2nd Australian Divisions are now turning toward Pakhoi, 1 hex away. The two USA divisions are just 1 day behind them.

Some enemy maneuvering on Java, so our commandos heading for Tjepoe are halting until friends arrive. See below.

Lots of Imperial aircraft on either recon or search of the Marianas. Very likely that so many troop convoys being spotted will tip our hand. Much loading has completed but some is still ongoing. Those two amphib eng trac Bns do require more lift than I assigned so it's being sent from Guam.

The 81st WA Div will arrive at Medan tomorrow. Pursuit down the Malay Peninsula is moving rapidly as the infantry takes the rail bed while the armour moves around it on roads.

As expected from our discovery yesterday, the Empire finished pulling its desperate minions out of Lao Cai.

Also as expected, our troops bearing down on Pakhoi have attracted the attention of bombers meant to delay them. Most of the units at Lang Son are ready for another attack, but one of the divisions is not quite ready, so we shall wait another day.

The convoy seen near Luzon in the South China Sea is at Manila. A P-47 group swept Manila with great results. See below.
