No rants please just your opinions

World in Flames is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. World In Flames is a highly detailed game covering the both Europe and Pacific Theaters of Operations during World War II. If you want grand strategy this game is for you.

I am not sure of Bo's timelines and irl time availability - but what about trying to play it via Skype or so by sharing screen as a few of us are doing?
Even assuming the AI would suddenly get prioritized over anything else - by the time the stuff is coming out I'd not expect it done anytime soon. (It's more probable an Optional Rule requiring just a flag switch like City Volounteers is coded in 1 patch, than a whole AI).

I fully understand to play it in solitaire could not be very enjoyable (at least for me it's not).
So my only true suggestion is to try to make the best out of what you have at hand - or eventually the game joins the shelf of "not played anymore" games; which I am sure everyone of us has.

Cohen this game at least for me is too brillaint to ever be put on my dusty shelf, when I say 6 years of solitaire, a little misleading 5 years testing [;)] I know more than anyone here I am beating a dead horse as to priorities
at this moment in time it has to be done like centuur says and no variation.

I personally do not like netplay, I will concede with 4 or 5 playes the companionship and the conversing is worth more than the game IMO. But married players may have a huge problem allocating time with all their other family responsibilities.

My son plays Combat mission PBEM against 7 or 8 pbem players so that means if his wife or my grandchildren need him he can break away, a little more difficult in netplay I assume, not sure.

Thank you, and I Apologize as well. I completely understand your feeling toward the MWIF(6yrs). I'am more into board gaming, even though I've helped to support(buy games) Matrix for years. So you have more experience than my self with the game. Also I know very little about Net play.[:)]

Experience does not exactly mean I can beat anybody [:(] hell I cant even beat myself, fired my general but the new one is no better. Interesting you speak of Guadalcanal as your tag, most of my testing was with the Guadalcanal scenario, the trouble it is only 5 moves 10 months long. But the Naval battles can be deadly with the carriers involved.

This is probably one of the few games that can be played solo, I find the Global war a little too much for my way of playing, I believe that when Steve releases Fascist Tide and Day of Infamy the two half maps [hopefully soon] everybody's spirits will pick up because they are great scenarios.

There is a possibility that the two half maps may be easier to play on net play then playing Global war only because of the very large scope and time consuming of moving so many more units on Global War, but then what do I know.

I know very well of that - given I am the single part of the merry duo (made by me and my opponent). He's a young kid (like 2-3 years old or so!) and a wife (which by how he describes him, is quite bossy!).
So I have to press him to squeeze time whenever he can to play! (And that is why I am the one always doing the AARs and not him).

Well Bo I started to read the whole thread but then I started skimming. I think you are disappointed because you want everything at once. Something this project has never promised. I don't get your desire for some sort of pure PBEM mode when this game system would be hell to play email-by-email, 300 emails / turn, 1800 emails / year (more?).

The game is fairly playable via remote right now though it requires a little leg-work by the players. Experienced World in Flames players can probably get that done far better than new players, and it is unfortunate that this project never set out to hybridize "netplay" and "PBEM" with a few simple features to make that far more palatable to people - a reviewable combat results log, and some sort of password lock on the US Entry chits. Instead this project always moves slowly towards the elusive goal of perfection - Netplay over the Internet with the software handling each and every decision point.

I also can't understand your desires for this game. You bemoan the lack of the Fascist Tide scenario (so far) but say you don't like to play the Eastern Front of WWII - the central campaign of the war in Europe. People suggest other AI games to check out and you refuse because World in Flames doesn't have an AI yet. And you seem to refuse to play even an intro scenario against another person.

I think you will never be satisfied with this game. My advice is to dive in and use your experience testing the scenarios to simply play against another person. You did a lot of work on the game and you should try and enjoy it, in my opinion. Playing another human will always be the ultimate challenge, compared to an AI that is still a ways off yet. Set up an email game and agree to do combat decisions (intercept, ground support, etc.) live via Skype or cellular text every few days. It is really not that hard. Can you take Guadalcanal and hold it? Send your battlewagons down (or up) The Slot and find out.

Just play. It is a fun game.

brian brian I think you been drinking nasty beverages over the holidays[:D] You did a lot of skimming of my post brian, PBEM was a nono from day one, I never played PBEM and never intended to,dont like pbem period. Bemoan Fascist Tide? As far as Fascist Tide goes I play it every day, I would like Steve to release it to others not me, I have no idea what you are talking about with Fascist Tide.

As far as playing an Eastern front game because it has some kind of AI, sorry dont get it.

As a beta tester I have everything I need, except an AI, I get all the latest fixes from Steve and test them out long before you ever see them. Remember I played this game on a computer four years before it was ever released, you have always been a decent poster but I am confused with your post.
