Where to go after playing Husky?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Where to go after playing Husky?

Post by Kong Gulerod »

Hi guys,

I have just bought WitW as well as Operation Torch. I played WitE earlier and enjoyed it very much, so the jump to WitW is only logical :)

I have played Operation Husky a few times now, and I want to take on the next scenario. I am thinking Operation Torch, as it gives logistical challenges to counter.

But what is your recommendation for the next step?
Also when would you recommend starting multiplayer?

Some suggestions:

If you want to learn how to use air interdiction as the Allies then play Breakout and Pursuit.
If you want to learn logistics as the Allies play Westwall.
For Strategic Bombing then play Pointblank.
To improve your Axis defensive skills then play Bulge to the Rhine or Breaching the Gothic Line.

Torch is my favorite scenario. Very different.

Sure. It should be not so difficult to find beginner right now. Playing too much Ai can develop some habits which could hurt when playing human.

Thank you both for the quick replies.

I think I will go for the Breakout and Westwall scenarios before the Torch. Then I might be ready for some multiplayer action :)

Torch is v.interesting but can be quite challenging for a beginner so you're idea to play Breakout & Westwall first is a good one in my opinion

You can also play Rommel attacks or Battle for Tunisia as they are short/smal games (especially the former).

After playing a few short ones, the 43-45 Campaign makes for good learning. You get to see how your actions are affecting things long run. Plus you have more freedom in your decisions and so does the AI.

I asked myself the same question and you know what I decided on? "Battle for Italy". It eases you more into the game. It's just the "story" that happened after Husky, but begins with husky. It is familiar yet you have slowly to expand your scope. I like that. It was the same in WITE were you had short scenarios and slightly longer scenarios which began at the same point as the shorter ones.

I was also thinking that I would take on "Battle for Italy" as my first "major" campaign. Simply because, as you mention it, it is the continuation of Husky.

I am now in the midst of Breakout, and I am learning the ropes of the logistics. I can see the differences from WitE, with the depot setups being important and so on. WitW is really a different game from WitE

Battleground Italy was my choice after Husky, and I like that scenario as the historical OoB limits keep things focused, but it has almost all the full campaign elements (minus strategic bombing) of planning invasions and managing ground campaigns with supporting air.
