What is this?

The development team behind the award-winning games Decisive Campaigns: From Warsaw To Paris and Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive year and theater of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: Case Blue simulates the German drive to Stalingrad and into the Caucasus of the summer of 1942, as well as its May preludes (2nd Kharkov offensive, Operation Trappenjagd) and also the Soviet winter counter-offensive (Operation Uranus) that ended with the encirclement of 6th Army in Stalingrad and the destruction of the axis minor armies. With many improvements including the PBEM++ system, this is a release to watch for wargamers!

What is this?

Post by Der Kuenstler »

In the troop type popup there is information listed for soft attack/soft defense and hard attack/hard defense - I get those. But then there is another defense value number by the green triangle. What is that for? I already have numbers on hard and soft defense.

I think it's basically hitpoints.

OK but what about this one that shows two numbers by the green triangle - the tooltip says "defense" on both of them.

Good questions....I have wondered about it too. lol...I wonder about a lot of things in this game and yes I read the whole manual. Doesn't stop me from enjoying it though. I finally finished both Kharkov and Voronezh scenarios and found both of them to be intense and down to the last turn. Lovin the game but so much is a mystery to me.

I'm pretty sure the first value is "on attack" and the second is "on defense". The tooltip may be mislabeled.

The game makes tanks stronger while attacking. They have higher hard and soft attack values while attacking and I believe they also get more hitpoints while attacking.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

So hit points is how many times your unit can get hit before it is destroyed?

If you want to see all the calculations taking place during combat. Start a game without FOW on and do a battle. Then click on 'combat details'.

Detailed explanation of combat in this thread is going to be an overkill.

What you need to know is that a defending individuals gets a random number of hitpoints between 0 and its defense rating and the attacking individual an attackscore of 0 and its attack rating. Both are modified for a plethora of things.

If no modifiers would be in play a KV with a soft attack of 42 doing battle with Infantry with hitpoints 100 has 42% chance to score a hit (retreat/pinned/kill) on that infantry every combat round.

best wishes,
Vic

Thanks for the answer Vic - I'll try that! Understanding what is going on helps the enjoyment of the game immensely.
