Bombers on stand down and launching naval attack

Post by nardiajn »

I am playing stock Guadalcanal game...
game is now in the first week of October..
I have my Bettys in Rabul and Truk on stand down
zero training...

however, the last 2 turns they have launced without escort over PM and have been shreaded..
any idea of why they would launch ?

Sometimes unit commanders overwrite orders. Especially when they have high aggressiveness.

If You want to keep them on ground try to reduce range of unit to zero, move them to night mission or change commander.

Can You post picture of of this unit??

PM is worth having by Allies for its Betty-magnet qualities alone. Invade PM at start as Japs and avoid the moth apocalypse.

Doublecheck your squadron settings and potential new arrivals you did not stand down. If all involved squads were mission 'training' and all secondaries on 0%, and they still launched an attack that indicates a bug. But if you missed a single unit and set it to something like AF, port, or naval attack (without specifying a target), then you got your explanation.

Commander aggression never overrides mission type.

A screenshot of the involved squadrons before and after the turn would be helpful as well as the combat report of the attacks.

A common mistake first time out is to fail to use the "Stand Down" button before changing the orders.
If you had them on strike and then just clicked the "Rest" button in the area below, only the % you set to rest would stand down and the rest would still be on strike orders.

Yeah, never seen a unit set to "stand down" do anything but. Better recheck your settings.

Had something similar happen in my game.
A Nell group Commanders Aggression is 37 by the way; Set to Naval Attack, 20% Naval Search & 20 % General Training, twice did Ground Attack missions with No Clicked Secondary Orders.
I can't figure out why either.

Again, if the settings of all you units turn out correct then you may have found a bug and I suggest you post the save in the tech forum.

Personally I have doubts that there is one. There are so many units on map that one button set wrong is easily missed. Also reinforcements always arrive with attack mission settings, max range. Up to now, every time I suspected the game to override my settings, on second glance I always found a unit I initially missed or set incorrectly.

This is almost what happen to my sallies that took off from Kota to Singapore, unfort those Oscars never escort them and did the same thing next day. I checked everything to make sure it is in order if I didn't miss something. So I have no ideas why they never escort the sallies in the first place. Someone told me because the Oscars were too slow, so I don't know.

Do you mean that no secondary orders are set or that it is set to rest? Big difference as I found out the hard way. [:)]

If you don't ORDER them to rest they may take the initiative to do something else on their own!

No that is not the reason.

You need good commanders with approx. aggressiveness, fly at same altitude, base with supply and support.
