I give up

Post by Aurelian »

No matter how many times I reinstall, or how many times I restart, just can't build Cossacks.

The same message, whether it's Don or Volga or Ural, it tells me I'm missing a structure.

(Time to get some air.)

After reading this I started a Russian Campaign to see if I had the same problem Aurelian. I can confirm that I do.

I get the same message you do about missing a structure when trying to build any type of Cossacks whether it be Volga, Don, or Ural. Another weird things happens some of the time too.

When I try and drag a Cossack unit to the game map, the recruitment icon will get to the top of the bottom UI bar and disappear. Then the mouse cursor turns into the supply boxes and barrels you see in between turns when the computer is calculating supply for that turn. After that finishes it's little load period, my map automatically gets jumped to either St. Petersburg, Moscow, or the area where Rostov is.

It may happen 3 out of 10 tries. Most certainly a bug that needs to be addressed.

Better minds than mine are probably looking at this. All I can confirm is I have the same problem and can replicate I also cannot build a Cossack begining a campaign in January or August. (Sorry that probably doesn't help out the frustration all that much)

Done. Been reading more of the manual trying to find a solution and have tried playing through a few turns to see if that makes a difference no joy as of yet.

Here's what the good Capt Orso told me about the trip to St Petersburg..

The first time you open the build pool <F11>, if you drag a unit across one of the Rally Point buttons, the game engine starts doing some kind of calculations and then focuses on the Rally Point of the button you crossed. Basically the game engine is sensing the mouse pointer passing over the button with the left MB pressed.

The good news is, you simply drop the unit back into the Build Pool and the map focus will return to its previous position . Now that Athena has taken her sight seeing tour, you can drag units across the Rally Point buttons without any adverse affects... at least until the next time you start the game again

I had to decline an MP invite due to it.... :(

I lost out on a MP as well as I decided to wait for the first patch before exposing my doubtful talents on the rest of Europe. Hopefully gives them time to sort a few things and me time to learn exactly what I'm doing.

That makes sense Aurelian about the rally buttons. Hadn't thought of that.

Well, Cossacks are just one unit. They hardly make or break the campaign... which is 527 turns. By the time you need those cossacks, a patch will surely be available. Cheer up! :)

No, there are 3 Cossack units. :)

But the problem is that I found this just learning the game. So what else is broken? :)

Oh, you're also at war with some tribes near Turkey. Cossacks are cheap and fast.

There is an issue in recruiting cossacks indeed, we will fix that soon and issue a patch before Christmas.

I'm with you brother. I started a January 1805 Campaign and got all the way up to August and it crashes. Worse, its unretrievable due to the arcane save game "manipulations" that do not work or which are somehow incompatible with the manual. I HATE PAYING TO BETA TEST.

Yes, VERY bad bug. Hold off buying this product until crashes are fixed. I saw a posting from the developer that the fix may come out in January sometime.

I got a few turns into the 1806 Jena scenario and it crashed. This is my first AGEOD game and, considering this is supposed to be a mature game engine, my first impressions are so far not good. I will stand by until a patch is released, and announced here on Matrix Games forums as an official patch.

I can say I've recently played over 100 turns of CW2, so can confirm the engine is mature. Hearing there might not be any Cossacks is not a huge concern ... hearing multiple people talking about crashes is a concern. I hope the powers that be recognize these crash issues as well !! I have a group of 7 players standing by to start a game!
