Better cannon. P-39's is a 37mm.. good for strafing but useless for dogfighting, too inaccurate

P-400 uses a British 20mm cannon; kind of equivalent to the Zero's

You might be right. This whole thing started with KB showing up outside Brisbane. He then tried strat bombing a couple of times using KB. I don´t think he gained any points though.

I don´t think he can release more troops from NORPAC. He only have 2 divisions in place + 1 at PH. In fact he is moving both AA and BFs to the Alaskan bases so withdrawal seems very unlikely.
Reinforcing with AA and BF doesn't make much sense without commitment of additional INF units. They will simply consume supply, and make nice targets for your naval bombardments when the correlation of forces, and proximity to major bases, flips to your favor. Additionally, I doubt your opponent is moving those units just to prepare defensive positions. They could be intended for use in support of an invasion aimed at AV.

How goes the fortifying of your WC bases?

Good point. So far the BF units have been going to smaller Alaskan bases and AA to CH.

I´ve been working mostly on getting some forts up at the important Naval construction sites like Portland, LA and Alameda. But I´m still expanding forts at SD and Seattle. I´ve left some unrestricted engineers at WC for this purpose.

I can´t imagine a Japanese WC invasion working at this point though. I know someone suggested it a while back as the means to tip the VP balance into AV by doing a late 42/early 43 WC invasion. I looked into it then but quickly ruled it out. Things might be different in SCEN 30 though. Never played SCEN2/30 before. I´ll look into it again. Don´t have a turn to do anyway. [:)]

Back on track again I see. Still cannot say much since I also read Lowpe's, but I'm looking forward to more or less daily updates again :P

Also, at the cost of being sadistic, I will admit that reading the reciprocal speculations and predictions, whether they are right or wrong, is great fun [8D]

I hope to get a turn tomorrow. Fingers crossed for that as I´m starting to suffer withdrawal symptoms! Hence the speculations and predictions...! [:D]

Jocke-

You and Francois sure have your hands full of war-mongering invasive Japanese.

You get stronger every day!

Good luck!

Best Regards.

Yey, A turn! [&o]

------------------------
NORPAC
------------------------

Ouch, not good. Got caught up in a sweep again. First one we do alright trading around 1:1. But the second sweep just smashes my CAP.
Morning Air attack on Nelson , at 214,44

Weather in hex: Light rain

Raid spotted at 43 NM, estimated altitude 22,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 14 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 36

Allied aircraft
P-39D Airacobra x 3
P-40E Warhawk x 3
F4F-4 Wildcat x 4

No Japanese losses

Allied aircraft losses
P-39D Airacobra: 1 destroyed
P-40E Warhawk: 2 destroyed
F4F-4 Wildcat: 1 destroyed

I lose 26(!) Fighters for only 9 Japanese. Not a good exchange. My intimidate reaction was to set everything lose on CH but I cancelled it once I calmed down a bit.

Need a little bit more time before I´m ready.

------------------------
China
------------------------

Another attack by the Japanese Panzer Armee. I´ll lose this position soon.
Ground combat at 74,52 (near Tuyun)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 23244 troops, 382 guns, 994 vehicles, Assault Value = 1301

Defending force 49614 troops, 125 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1133

Japanese adjusted assault: 432

Allied adjusted defense: 1186

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 2

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), experience(-), supply(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
190 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 13 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 37 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Vehicles lost 85 (2 destroyed, 83 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
1339 casualties reported
Squads: 5 destroyed, 161 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 9 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 4 disabled
Guns lost 5 (1 destroyed, 4 disabled)

------------------------
India
------------------------

Nothing happening besides the usual strafing at Ledo.

------------------------
SOPAC
------------------------

Separate update coming!

Perhaps this turn made me a little wiser. Japanese lands on Aoba, a dot base just East of Luganville.
Amphibious Assault at Aoba Island (121,150)

TF 55 troops unloading over beach at Aoba Island, 121,150

Japanese ground losses:
78 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 6 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 12 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Guns lost 7 (0 destroyed, 7 disabled)

They also secure Efafe destroying the small commando unit there.
Ground combat at Efate (120,154)

Japanese Deliberate attack

Attacking force 1512 troops, 19 guns, 2 vehicles, Assault Value = 42

Defending force 181 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 5

Japanese adjusted assault: 14

Allied adjusted defense: 3

Japanese assault odds: 4 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Efate !!!

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), leaders(+), fatigue(-)
Attacker: leaders(-)

Japanese ground losses:
7 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Allied ground losses:
229 casualties reported
Squads: 10 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 8 destroyed, 0 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 0 disabled
Units destroyed 1

Assaulting units:
Kure 3rd SNLF

Defending units:
2/5th Ind Coy

So this looks more and more like a long term commitment to suppress Noumea and a possible invasion. He will have to land BFs and start building up the AF though. This means KB will be stuck here in SOPAC for a long, long time.

This won´t be easy for him though. And I have some ideas... [:)]

You may want to buy back that commando company. There are 6 of them in 1942 but in January 1943 three more arrive and you can start combining them in groups of three to form battalion sized units similar to Kanga Force. Much more capable units, likely able to hold their own against an SNLF unit.

Doing reasonable well here although I suffered a couple of setbacks when my CAP was caught up in heavy sweeps. I´m actually winning in all aspects including A2A which I´m quite happy about given the time frame.

Worth to take note of the heavy Japanese losses in the flak and Operational losses category.

Boy you PBEM guys sure are timid with your air forces....[:D]

Already bought them back. But I think you can recombine then without doing so as long as the missing fragment is listed as destroyed?

I think I remember doing this with the Indian 11th(?) ID where most of it is destroyed in Malaya?

PS. Just finished reading my old AAR against Erik. There a lot of people that has disappeared since then. [:(] Erik, GJ, House Stark, Speedy, Princep01, Captain Cruft, Kereguelen, Ehansen, aztez, Whipple, to name a few...

I know some of them are still around on the forum playing other games like Speedy. Some just stopped playing like Erik and GJ. Some just disappeared. One thing is for certain though. The loss of active forum members isn´t made up by new additions. Not good for AE. [:(]

Its Focus Pacific. [:D]

Haven't looked to see just how beefed up the Japanese side is but the Allied side is almost over the top.

I have never played a scenario with Allied plane pools so flush.

I have more airframes of more types than I can ever use. I think I have over 300 LB30s.

In the air I'm actually playing an aggressive defense with little offensive action.

My heavies that aren't training are flying recon.

All my bombing is tactical, suppressing front line airfields and bombing troops.

The majority of my kills come from interceptions of the relentless daily bombing of everything everywhere the AI engages in.

I hope it doesn't happen to me as well.

After years of procrastinating I took the plunge with the Christmas sale and bought War in the East.

As can probably be surmised from my avatar I am a SERIOUS afficianado of the Eastern Front.

Hans Bolter was one of Germany's top Tiger tank aces serving in the 502 Schwere Panzer Abteilung on the Leningrad front.

I played the heck out of War in Russia in the DOS days.

Still wading through the 335 page manual hoping I don't get so engrossed that I forget about AE.

I do that when I deep search on something as well. The Old Days. I miss Mynok's avatar.

It seems a lot of the newbies don't stay and the ones who post often have not read the manual even once. OTOH, I get the impression, and in one of my games have confirmation, that there is a pretty large community of AE players, especially in Europe and especially who are English-challenged, who don't visit the forum much or at all.

Its a really, really good game! Lots and lots of hours in there for you. But you will be back to AE. [:)]

PS. When I played it last the Russian AI did a fairly decent job given a bit of boost! I actually stalled pretty close to the historical lines but managed to secure Leningrad. [:)]
