Pbem Campaign....

Ok Jess and I have began a PBEM Campaign...starting in August of 1943.

Jess will be the US....I will be Germany. Shocking eh? :rolleyes:

0500 hours
08/19/1943
Falcone, Sicily
HQ Panzer Detachment "VonBaran"

Since our unit arrived in Sicily on the 13th we had been kept in reserve around the town of Messina...until today.

With the fall of Palermo to General Patton's 7th Army our grip on Sicily was greatly weakened. The American general's dash up the western side and then along the northern shoreline of the island caught us off guard.

Thus, instead of heading down the costal road bordering the Ionian Sea to halt the British thrust up from Syracuse...we have been ordered to sortie out as a recon in force due west towards the area of Barcellona and Falcone. Our oders are to locate the American lead elements ( the 2nd Armored Division and 3rd Infantry Division ) and halt their progress to the best of our ability.

Though we are a small element...we have had the luxury of two months of rest and refitting near Rome prior to our deployment here in Sicily. Our worn out panzers and supporting infantry have been allowed time to regroup somewhat from losses incurred from two years of fighting in Russia.

While we are not at full strength we have received some formitable weapons...and are eager to test them in battle. At 0530 Hours we are to move out...and rejoin the war.

0545 Hours
08/19/1943

Through the inky darkness our detachment moves along the road leading out from Messina to Barcellona/Falcone.

To the east the sun has just begun to tint the dark blue/purple along the horizon a lighter hue. Above us the stars still shine in a sky clear of clouds...not a good thing in light of the Allied control of the air. We will need to be in camouflaged positions by mid morning to avoid undue attention from their fighter bombers.

As we roll along we come to an area of rolling hills and spotty patches of woods...perfect ambush positions. Our recon elements roll ahead to scout the area out.

0600 Hours

Contact! A HT of ours encounters enemy fire on a hill to the south of the main road. A section of our detachment swings towards the sounds of gunfire.
A section of Pzkw IV's moves into position with infantry support to re-inforce the recon unit on the hill. From the murky darkness muzzle flashes shatter the night and tracer rounds stream through the air. The enemy has stronger forces in position than expected.

0605 Hours

A Pzkw IV erupts into flames from a large caliber shell on the hill...so we have encountered more than just American infantry and light recon AFV's.
An American Grant tank is stopped in its tracks trying to come in from the north of the hill...it's crew bails out. Elsewhere a scout unit spots more American armor waiting in ambush...but we shall not fall for that.
In the meantime we send out more units to the north of the main road to see if there are any American units trying to flank our line. Our scouts report the same...a line of American tanks seemingly gathering for a push. Again we vector units in to counter this threat as well.

0610 Hours

We have pushed out more recon units and have found a large number of American tanks...medium Grants with 47mm and 75mm guns (albeit badly placed). It is now that we unleash a nasty surprise on the American forces our scouts spotted...our Pzkw VI's...The Tiger!

To the south on "The Hill" a nasty fire fight has erupted between our HT's and Stugs and American HT's and AFV's...fires burn here and there from the wrecks of battle. Flickering pillars of orange dot the night...billowing plumes of thick black smoke that merge into the night sky.

I am down a full 1/2 of my starting Armor.. I am not sure if I can even help to hold on....damm it!:mad:

I am not sure if I even have a "core" group..I am player 2 (AI) in this...

I will be happy soon....I have a new M4 painting in the mail...very cool!

If you're unhappy with the game Jess let's retool and try something new.

After all, there's no use in carrying on a game that one player might not find very interesting.

I knew your mouth would drop with that initial tiger assault on those Grants. My scouts found some of them the previous turn and I tried hitting them from the left hand side in most cases...where your 75mm couldn't always return fire.

Over all the tactic seemed to work really well too! In no time there were around 6-7 burning/abandoned Grants...and their return fire didn't do a thing to any of the two Tigers!

It was the happiest turn of SPWAW I have had in a while.
