Dominated strategies ?

Post by nukkxx5058 »

Hi,
I have a decision to make about Romanian oil production. I have several possible decisions:

A- demand maximum output: 60% of GOOD outcome, cost 8PP
B- request increase output: 50% of GOOD outcome, cost 8PP
C- suggest something: 50% of GOOD outcome, cost 4 PP

B is clearly a dominated strategy (dominated by both A and C) so it's an absurd choice and therefore should never be played.

Or do I miss something ?

The "good" outcomes are not the same for each choice. If memory serves, "A" gets you a short burst of a fair bit more fuel, "B" gets a somewhat smaller but permanent increase, after a bit of delay, not sure about "C". Many of the choices in the game are like this - the "good" and "bad" outcomes aren't specified when you're making the choice, and they can vary from one another.

That would explain !
But maybe the wording should be adapted to reflect the differences between the various 'good' outcomes ? Because otherwise it's hard to make a rational decision.

From memory one of the supporting documents elaborates a bit more on the choices?

Hi nukkxx,

As a quick rule of thumb the choices in any decision that give the greater bang for your buck are those at the top.

If you look at the 'Option Cost' which is always last in the report bundle you can see the base cost of a decision (which gives you a really good idea of the value of each decision option - one that has a higher base cost is a better option than one with a lower cost) and how it is affected by various factors.

Most likely in your case option A has a higher base cost that has been reduced to 8 PP due to other factors (relationships, hitler's priorities, etc.)

Cheers,
Cameron

In this case the first option provides more oil for a shorter period of time, the second less oil per turn for more turns, iirc. The options are explained in one of the attached documents.
