Get England to accept peace.

Post by Lucky77777 »

It's October 1805. My war score against England is 230ish. I have taken all the strategic cities in England but have not taken Dublin. England refuses to surrender. None of France is occupied. War score against Austria is around 45.

What am I missing? Why will England not through in the towel? Btw I'm playing the sea lion campaign.

I'm not too sure in WoN but this was an issue in Pride of Nations (and the basic diplomacy routine is much the same). There you rarely would see a major power offer terms early on, no matter how well you did. If you held the capital for long enough they tended to come around to your point of view but that wasn't quick.

The problem you face in this situation is rebellions, it can take some time to hold down all the provinces you need and you can't extract much of your army or you face losing control. I think the AI knows this, so especially if you are in another war it may be prepared to wait you out.

I had this in an old PoN game where as Italy I had the Ottomans beaten, they offered quite a good peace but I wanted more so carried on the war. A few turns later Germany attacked me, so I had to get a quick peace and hoped for the old deal. The Ottomans seemed to have changed their minds and all I could gain was some reparations (despite still having the same warscore).

The other thing a major power is unhappy to do is to give you your full warscore (but again this will change over time), so you might want to experiment with different levels of peace offers, say only using 15% of your warscore. You can always revert back to an earlier turn if this is accepted and its not what you want.

The other issue maybe that the game is structured around a permanent war between England and France, just wonder if that is over-riding the normal diplomatic engine? If so best posted as a potential bug or unintended outcome of a core game concept?

How do rebellions show in the game? I am noticing more pillaged icons showing up in areas I haven't been in for several turns. I think I'm going to have to break up a corps and occupy more of England.
