Not much from me

Post by Buzzard45 »

I took the targets I could see and kept in a defensive posture. I couldn't see much. This game plays tricks that way.

More units move into position and more coming.

Three turns left. I keep up the heavy barrage but I won't break through his defenses.... not enough time.

turn 20/22

Post by sandman20 »

Not much from me either.
I lose one Sherman to Buzzard's AT-gun this time because I wasn't careful enough.:(
I pushed back few infantry units in the south and I hit Matilda in the middle but that shot just bounced off.

I think that Buzzard is not going to attack anymore, (though I might be wrong) and to me it's very difficult push forward because I have not any artillery available to cover my advance with smoke.
Back to you again Buzzard.

Counting down 2 to go

Post by Buzzard45 »

The Brits infantry finally took out a cardboard Sherman. Sandman advanced into the same valley that cost me three Crusaders. Without infantry back-up the Sherman was looking for it although he took out an HT with his 1st shot. That causes me some grief. but its a good trade. It took 7 or 8 Piats from a range of one after a Crusader knocked a track off the lowly beast. Another Sherman tried to help front the backside of the centre hill but he was still hurting from the Arty pounding.

Arty has slowed the Sandman's advance but it can't do it all. Fickle sight lines hide his tanks from my 17pdrs but I have onthers moving up as well as the Achilles. 5 more turns and it would be a complete victory but then Sandman would likely have stayed in a defensive position. I may have to head over the central hill with the available units. Spotters say that most units are routed but that won't last.

The south cost the Sleepy guy a HT and maybe 2 Scout cars. The Crusaders like hitting HTs and scout cars.

Well Sandman. We are so close that we might as well see the final score. Only two turns to go. Its been a great battle with very few mistakes and sound tactics. We'll have to play again at a later date.

turn 21/22, almost over

Post by sandman20 »

I got one more Lee behind the central hill this time, that cost me one halftrack in the south.
I also left one Sherman to bad situation and I'm quite sure that I lose it at Buzzard's turn.:(

Well Buzz, this have been strange battle but I think you have been clearly better than me and you're using your units very effectively.
Sure thing, let's play again another time but now it's your 21st turn;)

Those Sherman are amazing

The Shermans hit again on the first shot. They have incredible luck or skill. My 17pdrs have better specs by far but can't hit like they do. I am going to have to get some of them.

Last kick at the kitty. I'll send my password so you can see the map. Watch out for Airborne, they should show up any minute now.;) ;)

Good Luck and Tight lines. Its almost time for me and my buddies to land for a feast.:D :D

The last turn.

Post by sandman20 »

I was able to destroy a Matilda and halftrack from Buzzard at my last turn and I tried to cover my units as well as possible against his last assault.:)
British artillery layed a lot of smoke to the nearby of my rear VH's.
Let's see if he can reach them, good luck Buzz! ;)

My password to the map is "worldcup".

Its done

Post by Buzzard45 »

I captured 3 of Sandman's Home VHs with a run through the smoke corridor. It landed almost perfect. There was only one 50Cal that protected the corridor. I sent HTs and Crusader MKII AA's against it until it ran and then moved in with another HT who ran into a ARM infantry that took it out but I had back-up jeeps bringing up left-over Airborne sections. When I captured all I could reach. I went for the Arty park and de-crewed the Sherman guarding them. The 30cal was wasted by another Crusader and a Jeep full of Airborne.

I could do little in the North as I had no units with enough movement to get through the shell holes. I sent a Lee forward but he was ineffective.

I think I had the advantage of number of units in this game but the quality of troops went to the Americans. I again lost a fast moving HT to the first shot of a Sherman at 17 hexes. That seldom happens when you play them against the Germans. I see from the rosters that I did have the numbers advantage, then again I bought cheaper units. No Shermans, Only Achilles , Lees(not Improved) and Matilda CS. The stars were the Crusader AA. The Mark I is less than the cost of a 50Cal HMG, with its 40mm AA (no AP rounds) it is a formitable weapon. The Mark II carries AP and is more accurate but cost a lot more. They were great for taking out MGs and ATs. That is what I bought them for.

I had many more units left at the end of the game. Sandman commited almost all his force and used them well. His damage inflicted was better than mine but I held the VHs. (all but the one)

Great Game Sandman!! You are a strong opponent and a real challenger to play. Thanks for the game and Good Luck in the finals. The only weakness you showed was in your artillery. It revealed itself and was rendered ineffective. Try using the smoke in the backfield trick to hide them mixed with some off-map battrries. Artillery prep would have made your assaults unstoppable. My assaults were limited by the reduced movement otherwise I would have played it different. I should have prepared for my advances better and not wasted the arty. I will know for next time.

Yep, I need to revise my artillery operations and I need to cover them better in the future. Actually I have tried now that "Smoke to the backfields" -trick and it have been work great against couple of my opponents:D .

Once again, thanks for the game, my score was better than I suspect but I guessed that I killed more of your stuff than you killed mine. Anyway, as you said, you hold the VH's and points are yours, Congratulations Buzzard ;)
