How to View Parameter Data?

Post by mllange »

How do I view the parameter data for a scenario from within the game? F4 doesn't seem to do anything and there is not a drop down from the help menu or menu bar that I can find.
There's a simple answer to every complex question - and it's wrong.

You have to look at them in notepad/wordpad, init.ai is the parameters list, in the main folder, then open the individual scenario ai files to see what has been set.

Hope this helps?

It's not ideal, but it does help. I guess I'm spoiled by how it is implemented in the John Tiller Panzer Battles series. Thanks!

How do I view the individual scenario ai files, where are they located and what are they called?

They are in the scenarios folder, look under each scenario, the first file will be an .ai file, you can look at this in notepad/wordpad. This is a new thing for us, so perhaps eventually we can have it portrayed in game!!

Which parameters are you after? There's a lot of parameters at the end of the day that have to do with how the engine runs the game, spread out in a few files actually.

The AI parameters Mike talked about are described in detail in Berto's AI Coder Diary.

For the basic scenario parameters you can observe some of them in the side when Unit Info Box is toggled on (Hot key 'U').

From the menu, Status - Scenario Information pops up a little dialog showing some other scenario parameters as well.

Something else as well?

All of that is good for the more modern games but it doesn't help on individual battles such as John Tiller's Civil War Games. I have 5 of them and can't find the parameter dats for any of them. Any advise.

Hello Casey, I suggest you ask about the Civil War games at Wargame Design Studio's forum, as it is part of their portfolio. We, as the CS Legion, only do JTCS, CS Middle East, and CS VIetnam.

I don't unfortunately own any of the Civil War games so don't know the answer for your question.
