I've tried that but nothing seems to happen besides flying toward the target. i.e. area defenses ignore them. Are its sensors inherited from the parent or are they automatic.

I find that the scenario designer needs to use exclusion zones for the AI to actually shoot at the decoys. Without an exclusion zone the SAMs typically won't shoot at an air contact until is is ID'd (unless the doctrine is set to shoot at everything). However, the decoys often aren't ID'd until they are right over the target, which usually doesn't help your SEAD efforts.

It's even worse when aircraft visually ID the contacts and then start shooting at the now-known-to-be-harmless decoys! [:@]
