New Scenario Questions

Post by Face01 »

Hi guys a newbie here,

So I've finally been able to save my progress.

I'm creating a scenario in the eastern Med and I've been searching for the Russian fleet composition in Syrian waters.
So far I've been able to identify the Varyag and the Vice-Admiral Kulakov that are there. I haven't been able to identify who are the support ships to complete that fleet.

Any help?

Also, since this being my first scenario build, how early do you guys like testing scenarios? I know preferably beta but is alpha ok too?

Playable sides are USN/Nato, Russia (Navy & Airforce assets) and Syria. Targets include all three sides plus ISIL and rebels.

USN/Nato assets: CVN-75 Harry Truman, Incrilik AB, RAF Akrotiri, Sheik Isa AB, Abu Dhabi AB and the Rmeilan AB in northeast Syria captured by US Spec Ops
Russian assets: Russian fleet off Syrian Cost, current make up of Russian Air Force at Bassel Assad Airport, Mozdok AB
Syrian assets: Several functioning AB inland and in the capital includes Mig29s and Mig25s and Mig31s and Hinds.

What do you guys think about the scenario and that Russian Fleet composition?

I for one would be happy to play through an alpha and give feedback, particularly if it's your first scenario. I can't give much feedback on force composition (I don't know much about what or who is in the Mediterranean at the moment), but I can probably help with playability and general scenario editing stuff.

Sounds like an interesting scenario. In my opinion I prefer testing Beta vice Alpha but I guess that depends on your definition of those status.

To me Beta means that you have played threw once or twice, at least the first few hours to ensure that the basics work. If you have any events, they are tested. You have an idea that the scenario is basically balanced.

Your Orbat seems OK, and that is what testers can help you with, by testing the balance and logic to make the scenario better.

Other players/designers/testers, may have a different view. It takes time and effort to test a scenario so it is a collaborative effort. A scenario that is unready could turn some potential testers off. On the other hand there is a good number who are especially willing to help new designers.

Your scenario sounds like it has a very interesting and current premise so should attract some interest. If I have time I'll take a look but am away at the moment for the next couple weeks.

Hope that helps.

Thanks guys for the feedback. Very glad you're interested in testing it out. I'm trying to model the scenario's assets (and sides and the front lines) as close as possible to actual forces in the area. I'm about 25% through and I completed USN/Nato, Russian Air, Syrian, ISIL and rebel positionings. I'm thinking of adding the Kurds in the mix, makes more sense. Once I complete the Russian fleet composition I'll be done with the assets for all sides. I'll just need to write out the LUA.

Yea its interesting because its a nasty mix of everything and almost everyone. Also read that at one point in December, according the Russian MOD, they counted more than 50 UAVs up in the air at one time belonging to different countries and groups. I need to model that in as well and very plausible.

If you guys every come across those Russian support ships off Latakia/Tartus let me know!
