I am now constantly looking at all three but I am concerned about how much supply my airforce will consume once it is totally engaged around HI. I have really ramped up the production (especially fighters) so it will be interesting to see the net effect.
Fighter costs are not that crippling. CAP missions expend 1/3 supply point a day per plane flown, so each fighter plane burns 10 supply a month flying continuos CAP. 1000 fighters on 90/10 CAP will burn 9k supply a month

But to use drop tanks the base has to have X2 supply required .. all the time ..damaged planes require supply as does replacements ..
The support units require supply which is a total package ..

One rule that changed things a bit is unlimited aircraft at level 9 airbases .. that means spreading out focus as an example in terms of support from multiple bases ..

This does not increase supply usage

No, they don't
as does replacements ..
Those do, yes

You will pay it in any case

I assume that fighers on CAP constitute the vast majority of missions flown when in the final phase of war, defending HI. So their costs are of most importance. Surely there are other supply expenditures associated with aviation, but you either pay them anyway, or dont ramp up those types of planes as much as fighters (which should be measured in hordes)

It is different supplying bases away from the home islands and moving supply to these locations to project power.
AS an AFB supplying support in SF is much different than Beru .. the port for example has to be able to maintain the level of action

as a AFB I do see increased supply demand with increased damaged aircraft from accelerated activity ....
Personally I will wait for a comment from Alfred on this I also note increased ops losses when supply is low .....maybe aircraft automatically repair as a part of the cost of supplying support forces ..

Update Russia- Northern Theatre

Its sheer carnage right across the theatre as the Soviets continue to battle towards freedom.

Despite losing all of its armour assets, the main pocket still has 4 Divs + substantial arty which is proving very difficult to swallow. There doesn't seem to be any supply problems in the pocket given the impact of his arty on my hapless units.

I still think I can eliminate this force but it is a very tough fight.

In the South exactly the same problem is occurring. The python is attempting to swallow a giant crocodile with mixed success.

In this second pocket the remainder of his armour on the front (9 armd brigades) is trapped and to some extent battered. However I doubt I have the firepower to finish them off.[:(]

I just don't have enough Type 3s running around. When they do run into Sov armour they generally slaughter it.

Meaning you get slaughtered, correct? Or your Type 3's are able to handle the SOV armor?

Japanese Type 3's can easily handle most Soviet Armor. Except for the T34. Now July 45 it is a different story.[;)]

It is a good design, I'm just used to having to go up against T34's ... he's a year early, I forgot the date of the T34 ...

Yep the Type 3 is starting to have a real impact. I have 8 armd regts and 1 armd brigade running around now in Russia.

I suspect due to the poor performance of his armoured units that I am still fighting predominately light tanks (T26s and BT-7s). Even some of my weaker infantry brigades with weak TOEs are pushing his armoured brigades around which surely would not happen if they were equipped with T-34s.

This party is good fun until the allies land in Korea which would have to be on the cards- I know that is exactly what I would do.[:(]

You still have lots of ships left, and hopefully kamikazes to really put the kibosh on a Korea landing. Start digging forts at Moppo and north.[:)]

I wish there was some game mechanic so you could see what kind of enemy tanks and artillery and devices you are up against....not having it takes a little flavor away I think.[:(]

The Allies have to consolidate the Philippines and move supply forward. Plus the mid-44 upgrades are coming online.
So NJP72 has the time to fortify.

I personally would strike just south of Hong Kong, or better yet extend my Philippines holdings northward to Formosa, then
Foochow -> Shanghai then the open plains to Tsingtao ..That would keep the offense in 4E range ..extended fighter range

Korea would be a nice hail mary but the Allies in my opinion do not need a hail mary ... just a good solid advance ..

Thanks Guys

Yes shipping losses have been very light thus far. 1 x CVE, 1 x BB and around 8 x CAs. I still have the ability to stand and deliver some ferocious fighting.

A/C pools are also very strong- 300 Frank Rs already and around 800 Frank As. I will detail the strength of my a/c pools shortly.

R&D is largely over with the A6m8, Tony 100 the last Oscar and the Judy 3 all now on line. I really don't need or want to expend any further supply on additional airframes when those in service continue to give an excellent account of themselves.

The final Tojo version continues to perform very well in a defensive capacity, especially with veteran pilots.

I completely agree with the combat report. I would love to know what armoured vehicles are being brewed up. Just tried to crush the Northern pocket with 85K of Soviet troops and it was a very bloody fight. He could still escape yet!

Yes, you are in good shape with the IJN for mid-44. How about the allied losses, what's you best guess?

Those are ok ... keep pushing them.

The issue I have faced is the in '45 the last version of the TBolts and Stang have top speeds ~470mph. Frank become marginal. Shinden is effective in CAP. Ki-94 (Frank II) also works. Both of these have top speeds approaching the allied fighters.

Some players find the last Tojo/Tony's still effective against those allied fighters, alas my experiences do not match that. I find anything under 400mph just too vulnerable. YMMV.

Thanks Pax

Allied losses amongst capital ships are also very light.

3 x CVEs, 2 x BBs (maybe only 1!), and 16 x CAs. He has lost plenty of DDs, including 15 Fletchers in the last month as he sieges Singapore.

Otherwise Mike is great shape for the final assault.

Well I guess I am going to find out reference the P47 and friends. The Frank R is the best I have got and there is nothing else coming as I have largely shut down R&D to save supply. I am in the process of mass producing thousands of single engine fighters that are currently in service.

I am adopting the philosophy of quantity over quality [:D]

- Frank R
- George II
- Oscar iv
- Tojo C- still producing and getting good results
- Tony 100 and the last version of KI-61 (still have plenty of engines to use)
- A6m5c- a real workhorse and has been very handy
- A6m8- slowly superseding the A6m5C but largely building stockpiles. Seen brief action thus far and had no issues with the Hellcat.

- Frank B arrives in a month and that is pretty much it. Haven't done much with the Jack as this game is PDU off and not many sendais are running around with it. I think the last version of the Jack arrives in Oct but thus far I have been underwhelmed with its performance.

cheers

PDU off
Then strike what I said ... you've got the right mix for the IJA. Frank r is as good as you will get that most groups will upgrade to. no reason to go further.
You should have RnD the Sam ... almost all IJN groups could have upgraded and the Sam is close to the Frank r in performance, ~50 mph faster than the A6M8.

Plus 1 on Sam.[&o] But I understand your reasoning.[;)]

Very disappointed to hear about the Jacks performance. You get only 2 squadrons of version 1, and that climbs to four squadrons for the entire game. I thought it would do better. Just put it somewhere you expect bombers. It does advance to the Navy's rocket plane though.[:D]

Looking forward to your experience with Frank B.

I think Wargamer will be really setback by your better frames in this game as compared to the last one.

Who knows what Wargamer will do....he seems to be a pretty unpredictable opponent given his past actions. Here is hoping that the CD guns can sink a few Essex carriers in this game!

Thanks guys

I agree in hindsight not following through on the Sam was a mistake and something I won't repeat in the future.

The difference in this game is not only more advanced air frames but the numbers of them that are going to be deployed. I am very comfortable I can sustain a massive air attrition campaign over the HIs well into 45 now.

Mike is a wonderful and skilled opponent but I can read him slightly better these days. He will probe cautiously for a period of time but once he believes he has the advantage, he presses on to his objectives ruthlessly, irrespective of losses.

I am guessing Formosa may too hard so I wouldn't be surprised if he tries something like Iwo Jima to cut me into two before assaulting the HIs.

Great fun

The moment of the decisive battle has arrived!

The Allies have stepped up their offensive and have commenced landing in China. I think in part to relieve the pressure on the Russians who are generally getting the worst of it.

Massive fleets on both sides now stand poised to unleash carnage. Effectively the entire IJN surface fleet based out of Formosa (minus combat losses which have not been too severe) 60+ warships commence to sally forth to meet the USN.

Normally I have always avoided surface clashes with his warships but being reasonably late in 44 I am hoping to inflict serious damage on his BBs to lessen the deadly shore bombardments.

Sake is drank, speeches are made and the famous Z flag unfurled as 8 BBs and their 50+ escorts move off into an uncertain future- very likely destruction so not that unknown [:D]

The score board is in good shape so it is a pity to have to risk so much now.

However there is no way I can allow him to land multiple divisions in China without running a large degree of interference. Besides the IJN was designed to fight this battle, just not in 44!

All of the veteran divisions originally from China are now fighting in Russia.[8|]
