Your Wellingtons have a very good range of about 14 hexes and a very good bomb load. They are much too valuable and scarce to place where naval bombardments can reach them. Move them to a base just inland from Madras, wherever you have a level 3 or better AF.

Seems to me I should have had all the bombers a tad inland from India's Southern Coast.

I have moved all the remaining Madras bombers inland. I have plenty of air bases in India at level 3 and above.

Red Sun submarines woke up this morning in an ornery mood and proceeded to blow holes into two Allied transports. Allied Submarines attacked at Babeldaob, Truk, Rangoon, and Koggala but failed to hit their targets.

American Warships completed refitting today at San Francisco and immediately embarked for Pearl Harbor to await orders for an offensive bombardment somewhere. The only exception is the Long Beach, which accompanied by a BB, CA, CLAA, and two DDs are heading for the Aleutian Islands. Hopefully, prior to the fleets arrival at Pearl, The War College will come to a meeting of the minds as to where "Somewhere" will be.

Gentlemen of The War College-

El Lobo has had success sending Combat Surface Ships to bombard Allied ports on the Bay of Bengal. First, he bombarded Madras. Fortunately, though over 70 aircraft were damaged, most have since recovered.

On the 13th, Japanese Combat Surface ships bombarded Akyab. The damage was not too heavy for ground forces or aircraft. However, Port Damage is 66; Airfield Service Damage is 23; and Airfield Runway Damage is 14.

El Lobo has 5 Carriers sitting in the Bay of Bengal covering his Shore Bombardment Fleets and, now and then, sending Carrier Aircraft to bombard a coastal base.

I am not too concerned about the Carrier Aircraft bombardments as Allied Sweeps and AA units do a pretty good job of chewing up the Carrier Aircraft. However, I am damn concerned about the Combat Surface Fleets' bombardments.

Obviously, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, and Akyab are important bases for the Allies to build-up in preparation of Operation Land Shark. The tentative Plan was to move the 7 U.S. Army Infantry Divisions with Armor and Artillery from the Imphal-Ledo Line South into Northern Burma. And, to move III India Corps, the Eastern Army, ABDA Forces, the Burma Corps, I Australia Corps, and the 7 Chinese Corps, down the Southwest Coast of Burma into Southern Burma.

I can only come up with three choices:

1.) Retreat. Move Air and Land forces inland; thereby retreating from Akyab, Cox's Bazar, and Chittagong.

2.) Stay put, enhance Coastal Bases with Torpedo Bombers off the British Carriers, and basically take my beating. A bit worried about the beating the Allies will receive in terms of lost aircraft, disruption to ground forces, and damage to the bases.

3.) Stay put and send the 6 American Carriers with most all of the battleships, CAs, Cls, DDs, etc. to the Bay of Bengal and have the British Carriers and Combat Surface ships join up with the American War Fleets. Then pray, El Lobo is still there when the Allies get there and that he hasn't reinforced the Bay of Bengal with additional Carriers.

I am leaning toward sending the American Fleets to the Bay of Bengal for the following reasons:

1.) To hopefully force Naval battles with Allied superiority and do some serious damgae to El Lobo's war ships; including his Carriers.

2.) Bombard his forces on Ceylon and along the southern Coast of the Bay of Bengal.

3.) Coordinate the movement of tons of supply into Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, and Akyab.

4.) To be able to hold Akyab for the launch of Operation Land Shark after the Monsoon Season ends.

I am aware of sevearl down-sides as follows:

1.) The possibility of meeting up with more than just five Japanese Carriers in the Bay of Bengal (Don't rate this as a high risk).

2.) It will take ages to get there.

3.) Won't be able to carry-through with tentative plans to bombard Japanese bases in the Pacific.

4.) El Lobo will know where the American Carriers are, that the American Fleet is a long, long, way from home, and that the Pacific, Aleutians, and Australia are wide open for his whim(s).

Dutch subs are attempting to interdict Japanese Combat Surface ships along the Southeast Coast of the Bay of Bengal.

American Submarines

22 low-legged subs have formed a picket line a few hexes to the West and South of Attu and then East toward and almost reaching Dutch Harbor.

18 subs are positioned and completely surround Guam, Yap, and Truk (6 subs to each location).

A total of 7 subs or so are snooping around the Kurile Islands and at choke points in the DEI.

9 subs are around the Marshall Islands as the photo below depicts.

If you bring the Allied CVs to fight in the Bay of Bengal, have them take a position where they can get some help from LBA, especially fighters. Be aware that CVs like to react toward each other even if you set React 0, so plan for your support range to be four or five hexes beyond the ordered position of the CVs.

Along with this, do NOT split your TFs attention by giving the squadrons additional targets. You will need everything you have to take on his CVs and surface forces (you cannot choose one or the other in Naval Attack, the AI chooses). When deciding how to split fighters between CAP and Escort, favour CAP with the best and the most fighters.

I don't like Bay of Bengal in '42 for Allies. It is much too easy to get trapped. Add to this long-legged LBA from Ceylon and I see trouble. If you know where the bulk of his CVs are then be where they are not and whittle away on the edges. If he is using the good CVs against land targets in India and Burma attrition of his high skill pilots will bite his ass. You can afford to lose some LBA if those are who you are wearing down.

If you bring the Allied CVs to fight in the Bay of Bengal, have them take a position where they can get some help from LBA, especially fighters. Be aware that CVs like to react toward each other even if you set React 0, so plan for your support range to be four or five hexes beyond the ordered position of the CVs.

Along with this, do NOT split your TFs attention by giving the squadrons additional targets. You will need everything you have to take on his CVs and surface forces (you cannot choose one or the other in Naval Attack, the AI chooses). When deciding how to split fighters between CAP and Escort, favour CAP with the best and the most fighters.

In the event that the American Carriers head for the Bay of Bengal, we will talk more about a good place to position the Carriers.

Presently, the Allies have about 500 "Fighter" aircraft in India.

For now, the American Carriers are in route from San Francisco to Pearl Harbor.

I don't like Bay of Bengal in '42 for Allies. It is much too easy to get trapped. Add to this long-legged LBA from Ceylon and I see trouble. If you know where the bulk of his CVs are then be where they are not and whittle away on the edges. If he is using the good CVs against land targets in India and Burma attrition of his high skill pilots will bite his ass. You can afford to lose some LBA if those are who you are wearing down.

I agree, the Bay of Bengal would be an easy place to trap the American Carriers (if El Lobo sent the rest of his Carriers there). On the other hand, it would be a good place for the Allies to trap the five Japanese Carriers known to be in the Bay of Bengal right now.

I will decide whether the American Carriers head for the Bay of Bengal when the Carriers reach Pearl Harbor.

5 vs. 5 in 1942 and I'd wager on the bad guys!! I have not followed closely enough to know which 5 are in IO.....unless you knew they were near the end of their operational endurance and knew you had attrited (spell check don't like that word!!) lots of his planes. If it was me I would go where you might find the other 2-3. I think his Cent Pac. gonads a mile on the line leaving so many CVs that far from the likely operational area of the US CVs. Chop them but I sure wouldn't do him the favor of moving to where he is!

I believe at least two of the spotted carriers were CVEs, and there might be a CVL as well. That means considerable less punch in the Bay of Bengal and considerably more that could be elsewhere - like SOPAC. RB really needs to get intel on them!

An Allied PG steamed right into Marcus Island and found it completely empty of Japanese.

I intend to send a Base Force and an Infantry Battalion from Seward to capture Marcus Island.

Below is a map for my friend Haggard who loves submarines. Truk is also surrounded by Allied Submarines as are the MArshall Islands now.
