Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said a Russian ballistic missile had hit buildings in Azaz, with children among the dead.
That doesn't make much sense to me... Does the Russian expeditionary force even have Iskanders with it?

The same century when Turkey send their force into Syria and Iraq freely and US deploy drones SOFs in more than 100 countries. Is this thread about news, the facts themselves£¬ or about judging other countries?
RE: Naval and Defense News
What island are they referring to, exactly? It's basically all rigged up with counter-dispute machineries with potential of starting violence. And pinpointing attention to additional SAMs doesn't turning issues to anywhere else.
Also, that's what China replied:

But this is defense news, appreciated to bring this up for knowing the military activity in SCS. But if you got political and nationalistic matters, then please put them in CMANO Scenario, not here.

BEIJING (Reuters) - China's Defense Ministry said on Wednesday defense facilities on "relevant islands and reefs" had been in place for many years, when asked whether China had deployed a surface-to-air missile system on one of the disputed islands it controls in the South China Sea.
The Paracel Islands are China's territory, so China is within its rights to deploy defense facilities there, the ministry added in a statement to Reuters.
"China's air and naval defensive deployments on the relevant islands and reefs have existed for many years," the statement said, adding that reports by certain western media were nothing but "hype".

RE: Naval and Defense News
Woody Island is actually just 200 miles off Hainan, China's southernmost coast. It is firmly within China's EEZ and the only dispute there is with Vietnam, who also owns a bunch of islands in the Paracel group that they have militarized as best as their capabilities allow (even though, in the last few month, the Typhoons have mopped up whatever the Vietnamese's manage to reclaim and built there [;)]) - I dont think that anyone should blame China for aggression there, if this is merely a tit-for-tat response to whatever the other claimants did before. Same applies to the land-reclaimation, which infact began with Vietnamese efforts (pitiful one's, with shovels and stuff), that were answered by the giant dredging machineries and the Chinese industrial power[:'(].
Bottom line for the other claimants: Dont even think of picking a fight with someone whose propotional responses will be of dispropotional scale, because capability and disparity of industrial and technological power does matter a lot.

More importantly, we can compare the PLA deployment of what I assume are HQ-9's and the Russian deployment of the SA-21 to Bassel Al Assad. The Russian deployment, based on photographs I've seen, seems to be extremely limited (I've only seen 4 TELs). This indicates to me that the Russian deployment was rushed, and was mostly intended for messaging purposes in response to the Su-24 shootdown. I'd suspect they're not being quiet with the radar, either. The threat posed by the SA-21 is mostly "in being". It's there, and can't be ignored, but it's usefulness is a full-scale kinetic event would be limited.
In the case of Woody Island, there are 8 TELs alone in the BBC image, plus what appears to be a substantial group of crates nearby. In my assessment, this indicates two things; that the Chinese have surplus resources to allocate to the deployment and/or they intend their deployment to remain effective if things go hot. More likely, it's a message to all involved claimants and the US that the PLA will not slow down or halt it's militarization of the SCS, and that it fully intends to use force to defend it's claims if necessary.

It is also a tangent to US's THAAD deployment to ROK that yet to know if it will happens or not. The difference is, China do this deployment right at their own island (agree or not, I don't add quotation mark right at this line because it is what actually they're controlling); while US is emulating the Cuban/Turkey Missile Crisis(-es) at Korean Peninsula. THAAD isn't a nuclear weapon, but missiles are still missiles.
A serious message to Asia that arming every single corner of territories will lead nowhere but escalations.

Turkish Navy MELTEM II CASA CN-235 Maritime Patrol Aircraft Tracked Russian Navy Corvette

http://www.navyrecognition.com/index.ph ... ew&id=3581According to Russian media, a Turkish Navy Meltem II CASA CN-235 Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) tracked two Russian Navy Black Sea fleet surface vessels during their transit to the Mediterranean Sea. The two vessels are likely Project 21631 small missile ship (Buyan-M class corvette) Zelyony Dol and the ocean-going mine-sweeper Kovrovets. We reported about their deployment last week.
Thales was the prime contractor for the Meltem II programme, which called for the delivery of six maritime patrol aircraft for the Turkish Navy and three maritime surveillance aircraft for the Turkish Coast Guard. The aircraft are based on modified CASA CN-235 platforms.
The Meltem II aircraft of the Turkish Navy are fitted with an ASELFLIR-200 Airborne Thermal Imaging System by Aselsan, Airbus Defence and Space AN/AAR-60 Missile Warning System, CAE AN/ASQ-508(V) MAD system. Thales supplied a number of systems as well: the AMASCOS solution (Airborne MAritime Situation & Control System), the DR 3000A ESM system and the Ocean Master 400 Mk2 radar.
Meltem II MPAs can deploy the Mk46 NEARTIP Mod 5 torpedo, as well as AN/SSQ-53E DIFAR and AN/SSQ-62D DICASS sonobuoys. It is also fitted with the AN/ALE-47 Airborne Countermeasures Dispenser System by BAE Systems.
