Ideas and Feedback

VR designs has been reinforced with designer Cameron Harris and the result is a revolutionary new operational war game 'Barbarossa' that plays like none other. It blends an advanced counter pushing engine with deep narrative, people management and in-depth semi-randomized decision systems.

Ideas and Feedback

Post by studwick »

Hey guys!

First of all, thank you very much for this game. I had trouble getting into earlier DC games and Panzer Corps'esque games have about been as deep as i have gotten into hex-wargames. The whole management system with Reports really goes a long way for adding immersion.

For what they are worth, i have a couple of ideas that i think would, if not improve then at least, add something extra to this new type of game (Command Simulator?)

1. Perhaps a text-based pre-game for setting up past relations with other German Officers. It is very random right now, and there are times where i have restarted because i have either had a purely positive or purely negative relations with every Army Group commander and superiors.

2. I think for future installments, an interesting concept to explore could be the relations and cooperations with Formations that are at the same level as the player in the chain of command. Given, the east-front was the most important Theater of War for the germans, but i feel an interesting aspect could be putting the players in command of one of the Army Groups (North, Center, South) and let them now not only have the same coordination and management problems with their (now Army and Corps) commanders but now also competing for supplies with the two other Army Groups.

Hi Studwick,

The Past relationships can be switched off but any effect they have, good or bad, is reflected in the difficulty setting so you aren't penalised.

No.2 is a good suggestion but one that might have to wait until the next game.

Cheers,
Cameron

War in the Mediterranean 1940-43 per chance?[;)] Sorry but need to keep plugging this in the desperate hope that someone will take it up [8D]

Imagine the stresses and strains of Wavell and Cunningham in June 1940. Invasion fever - and the need to re-equip the returning BEF has first call, but the Italians then go and declare war leaving Wavell with a vast area to look after across the Middle East and North and East Africa (and few troops to do it with). Cunningham is competing with the invasion defence, the Home Fleet and the need for convoy protection and apart from the mighty Warspite, can field a bunch of old tarts. And then the French exit the war and....

Meanwhile Mussolini is pushing a reluctant Graziani to attack and when he finally does - Mussolini then spreads too few resources further by invading Greece. Meanwhile Campioni needs to ensure he can supply North Africa and Albania....

And all the while there is Hitler, happy to let Mussolini run his war - until things start to go pear shaped.....

Come on guys - you know this is a game that is desperate to be made...please? [8D]

I'm just happy that there WILL be a next game!

This brilliant system can be applied to so many WWII situations. Grognards each have their favourite possibility!

The trick will be to adapt it to be more appealing to the non-grognard market.

Then they'll be so rich and famous that they won't hang out in these folders any more...

Hi,

The Med does have a lot of interesting angles, especially with the different personalities involved.

It's got a big focus on naval operations though which would be hard to abstract and it's something that the engine isn't currently optimised for.

Cheers,
Cameron
