RE: Game will not recognize resolution
Yes it works. Hooray! I'm in the game. Thanks for all the help.
RE: Game will not recognize resolution
There is nothing wrong with the virtual box. This game has a serious resolution/scaling problem that needs to be addressed.
RE: Game will not recognize resolution
it has worked for everyone else, so grofaz your still the only one it doesn't work for, and as yet the only one using virtual box / emulations i'm sorry to say, which is unsupported and untested, so any advice offered or given may or may not help your case, altering like above his DPI setting worked, while others it was the resolution set back to the default size as they used a none standard screen size, which by each laptop maker can be off by a pixel or 2 which makes the scaling wrong, this is a known issue with hardware, not the game software.
i'm only a community mod, so a normal member like your self who helps out for free, i have 30 years pc tech work related knowledge, but none what so ever on virtual box / emulations / Mac's, so hopefully someone who does will reply with a better answer, again sorry it doesn't work for you, but as it was never designed for it, i'm not sure how to proceed either so will leave you to staff support and the developers.
good luck and hope something works for you, sorry mine didn't help[:(]
if you wish you can always contact support at
Just open a tech support ticket or contact http://www.matrixgames.com/support/ with your problem, for a guess they will say the same as what i already have if you link the problem with this page, but they maybe able to offer something different.

RE: Game will not recognize resolution
I own 30+ Matrix and HPS titles which run perfectly on a virtual machine. I have been tinkering with PCs since the TRS80 which is beside the point really. Matrix should run quality control before publishing and charging for a game. This launched with a major non-virtual box related bug as Windows users can attest.
This has nothing to do with you, or the developer really. I appreciate your help but perhaps you mistook my comment about addressing the issue personally. To be honest, I have been troubleshooting the hell out of this to make it work (back to my point that I shouldn't as a paying customer) but as an old grog I appreciate the developers product and want it to work. So, I hope you did not take offense at my comments because they were definitely not offensive at all, especially someone who is trying to help like you obviously are.
With that out of the way and back to the issue:
I raised the resolution on the MAC setting>Displays>to the highest (SCALED to more space) and changed Parallels from COHERENCE mode to FULL SCREEN and the menus appeared.
It's still cut off approximately a quarter on top and a quarter on the bottom but I think it will work.
I read somewhere that WINE works fine although I have not tested it yet.
Hope this helps.

I did test the game on Linux Mint 17.1 under wine and the game worked. Someone is also playing on OSX with wine as well...so hopefully you will be lucky as well.
RE: Game will not recognize resolution
I really don't want to mess around with WINE. If you could address the issue of the top/bottom showing of at least 1440 900 res on a MAC/Virtual box it would be great. I'm still tinkering around with the settings but I cannot get it to work with any setting under 1680 1050, which is extremely small.
Some of the Moderators and others have been helping out, but this issue can only be addressed by the coder. Hope you can adjust.
Good luck.

RE: Game will not recognize resolution
Not sure if you're asking a question or showing me your Parallels screen.
If it's a question; It's running but far from fine. As you can see from my screenshot I cannot see/access the top menu and I cannot see the extreme top, bottom, right and left sides of the screen (even in full-screen mode)
If that's your screenshot on Parallels, please send over your settings to see if I can re-create.

please let us know how you get on and share your finding, as it may help others, and in the end we all want it to work on everyone's machine, regardless if it's a pc or not

RE: Game will not recognize resolution
Any particular combination of screen resolutions?
Do you mind sharing the following:
Your MAC resolution?
Your Parallels mode (Coherent, Full Screen or Modality)
Your Display size?
Any other setting you think might be relevant.
I'm suspecting the 13" screen. Again this should not be a problem.
Thanks.

Your MAC resolution? Default vor Display
Your Parallels mode (Coherent, Full Screen or Modality) Don't know where to look ... but I guess full screen.
Your Display size? 21.5"
Any other setting you think might be relevant. No

RE: Game will not recognize resolution
I'm going to have to try WINE and see if I get positive results, will definitely share findings.
At this point, I am almost certain the main culprit is the lack of 'real estate' in my 13" screen which normally shouldn't be a problem. This could be easily fixed in a patch I suppose.
