Best strategy with the Soviets ?

Post by nukkxx5058 »

Just trying my first game with the Soviets and not sure how to proceed :-)

I'm considering several strategies including pulling back and massing my troops in high defensive value locations around the objective cities, but I guess the Panzer Groups are faster and won't let me do that.

I'm also considering trying to pierce the front line and disrupt logistics, but not sure how to do that ...

Any piece of advice regarding strategy for the Soviets would therefore be appreciated :-)
Thx

Don't just run, you'll only die tired and the Germans will be allowed to turn up relatively fresh at the gates of their objectives with plenty of fair campaign weather to grind through any defense you throw up, and the earlier date will mean you will have had less time for fresh armies to arrive.
Fight hard to slow and contain the advance while allowing as few encirclements as possible. Some will probably be inevitable but make sure those that happen at least buy you time. Keep a broad front with defense in depth to limit chances for a sweeping breakthrough by the panzers. Keep Zhukov busy blowing key bridges to delay the advance of FOBs. Aim to give as little time for the Germans to campaign near the final objectives, and fight doubly hard to prevent them capturing a rail hex next to an objective.
Plan ahead for a brutal counterattack on the flanks to punish any attempt by the Germans to rush or focus too hard on a single thrust and make him spread out and dilute that schwerpunkt. Come winter take the offensive and punish their lack of winter preparation.
