Question re: VC

Bashed together a quick version of The Front in Flames. I figured out how to assign VP to buildings and troops, but I'm confused by the levels of victory. I understand when the manual says they are calculated independently, but it seems to me you could have a situation in which both side wins a major victory depending on how these figures are assigned.

Can anyone offer some tips on using this feature correctly?

End results. GERMAN MAJOR victory, which is what happened on the map. Does the game compare the two sets of victory points, and use the high number to determine the side that won? The way I would think this works is that the German needs 8 more than the Russians to get a Major Victory, but the manual only says:

Bottom left panel shows Major Defeat, Minor Defeat, Draw, Minor Victory and Major Victory Levels. Each side is tracked individually.

Well if you are playing against the computer it will tell you your result.

Don't mean to derail your thread Michael but just wanted to comment. When I opened it I saw the map and counters and a big smile came to my face. Just reminded me how I love boards and counters! I have tried the WW II games that simulate down to inches of terrain but these simulations are not for me. I love TotH and ASL-like games with their beautiful 2-d maps and counters.

Michael, I think its correct 2 enemy forces can achieve both there objectives and both win , I don't know how the game would cope, if you had just one Victory point only one side could win, you don't have to assign VP for casualties

check when you can, I put diff stuff on now and then

Yes, but as a scenario designer I don't feel I know specifically how the game calculates that result. It will only tell you what you tell it to say, with the default being a draw every time you play.

There have been a lot of computer games that have tried to get something similar to ASL on a screen, and I've found most of them wanting. I do like this one a bit better, so far. I just got back into playing ASL, face to face as well as VASL, and have to admit, I do like playing with counters too...

Michael,

I too was confused at first. The victory conditions are the result for the side you are playing. I put together the Guards counterattack scenario and have two sets of VP's assigned for Germans on defense and Russians in attack to reflect the mission's goals.

I imagine if you have a meeting engagement the VP's would be more even VS attack VS defend.
