8th October 1941

Nothing to report. In front of Moscow I tried an attack on the one hex in the front line seemingly without a fortification - and was easily rebuffed. Not surprising perhaps as the defenders had over 200 entrenchment points!
I don't think it's possible to have over 200 entrenchment points anywhere without a fortification. Or maybe fog of war can overestimate entrenchments beyond what is physically possible?

As an aside, a long time ago I personally met a former Soviet soldier who in 1945 was sent to Siberia for 5 years for "slandering the Red Army" after he said that the Red Army was unable to dislodge the Germans in the Courland peninsula because they were very well dug in.

Well it is - because they have!! Unfortunately the turn is back with my opponent so I cannot take screenshot proof - but I guarantee you that is what it states. Its a matter of When does the reduction in entrenchment level take place to reflect the fact that the fortification has been reduced.

12th October 1941

Seven attacks launched - one successful (against one lone unit that had already been attacked this turn [8|)]

All attacks made with full strength units but the fortification levels are just too strong - even where no fortification exists. What is even more concerning was that almost all attacks did not even hurt the Soviets and I only got green results against them.

I should really quit at this point but will continue if only because I am intrigued as to whether 1st PzG panzers will ever receive a drop of fuel again.

Finally did the sensible thing and brought an end to this game.

As expected the Soviets are now counter-attacking from Gorki and with all my forces (bar one division) across the water, there is no way back before my forces are cut-off.

I tried four attacks with full strength or near full strength units against the Soviets most vulnerable points, but they did not even come close.

In the north a fresh army or two is now positioning to take out the 16th Army on the right.

In the south, no fuel - I guess the panzers are stuck in situ for ever - and no attacks (bar one) come anywhere near success. Two turns running siege guns have kept the defenders of Stalino at nil entrenchment and the defenders are overstacked, but no breakthrough is possible. Only one attack looked like I was going to get anywhere but the dreaded 'one green' result came back to haunt.

Clearly in those circumstances the game is over.

Well played to my opponent as ever [&o].
