Upgrade mysteriously increases!
I'm playing as the Americans, March of '42. One of my ships went in for upgrade-21 days expected.
All is fine, each day passing normally. No other ships added to the repair yard, plenty of supplies, etc.
When it got down to having only 7 days left till out of upgrade the number of days started increasing! When it got back up to 10 I decided to yank the ship. The number of days went down to 6. Next turn, still at 6.
What gives?

If it was upgrading you shouldn't be able to "yank it." Are you sure it was not repairing? Or upgrading along with repairing?

Some of the upgrades add a little bit of damage along the way -- for example 5 points of system damage. Would that increase the time for the job?
RE: Upgrade mysteriously increases!
21 days should mean 21 days. Not down to 7 than back up to 10. Never seen that before.

Maybe the shipyard got damaged by the enemy?

A couple of times I have seen ships catch fire while being worked on in port. This is one of those "1 in 10,000" type random occurrences in the game. Usually the fire causes considerable damage but it is possible (I think) to have a small fire - but not for several days running!ORIGINAL: Rusty1961

Another feature that plays with the time estimates is repair of devices. When you first put the ship into repair you get an estimate of repair time for Sys/Flot/Eng damage ONLY. It can be several days before the AI assesses the time required to fix a destroyed radar or gun turret, then the time estimate jumps a great deal, not by a day here and there.
All that to say nothing really fits what you are seeing except a saboteur in the welding crew, or an alcoholic crane operator![:'(]

Radar damage is System damage.
The repair estimates should not change after the repair manager assesses IF nothing changes in the repair facility or the generation of repair points. No yard damage, no entry of new ships needing services, no change in mode or priority, etc. You should not see a surging of repair time in a stable environment. As this rarely happens at busy repair bases the times can appear to jump around. But that's not due to a "new" assessment.
There is a small, random risk of damage to ships under repair that would change the time estimate. But that is a new factor and doesn't change what I said above.
Weapon repair is very different than other types of repair. Alfred goes into it extensively in his Repair Guide.

You don't begin to give enough information for anyone to help you. Post screen shots. And define what you meant by "yank."

I'm thinking that the most likely scenario is the ship is damaged, and the repair times are different. Depending on circumstances, the time to complete the upgrade will be reported in some modes and the time to fully repair the ship will be reported in others.

Maybe.
But based on him saying he "yanked" the ship (I took that to mean he stopped the upgrade, which you can't do) I thought it possible the ship failed the yard-size check and never actually started the upgrade, but was only repairing. But without more info it's impossible to say.

RE: Upgrade mysteriously increases!
One time I had Saratoga upgrading in port. Suddenly the time of the upgrade increased. The only thing I could figure was that perhaps I had overloaded the shipyard, slowing things down. (Or, it's possible that overloading the shipyard slowed down non-upgrade-related repairs.)

I don't think the upgrade time changing upward can happen, but I'm from Missouri on it.
It might be possible you crossed the next upgrade date while in the first upgrade and added the second one, but I've never tested that. I sort of doubt that would happen without coming out of the first update and re-engaging the upgrade check code, but I don't know for sure.
You might also have gotten random yard damage from that sub-routine and added repair damage, not more upgrade days, to the total time. Yard accidents are documented in the Ops report I'm pretty sure.

That was my other thought, but it's a really special case. It CAN happen, though.
I've had it happen. Ship starts first upgrade, and that upgrade delay doesn't complete before the next upgrade begins, and the second upgrade delay just gets added on to the end of the first. For example, if you start a ship's upgrade on March 28, 1944, and it is a 10-day upgrade with another 14-day upgrade due for April 1, 1944, then on April 1, 1944, the ship will (unless you have turned off the April upgrade) have the 14-day upgrade delay added to whatever is left of the original upgrade delay (in this case 7 days, so a total of 21 days).
RE: Upgrade mysteriously increases!
I had an upgrade increase in days and then the port upgraded 1 level and the days went down a few. Also I have seen a repairing ship go into upgrade at the end of the month, beginning of the next month, and seen the number of days go up. There is a few other ways as well....GP

Kudos to everyone on here trying to solve the 'problem' the OP can't bother to post a screenshot or any real info on. Good to filter these out of the tech thread but hard when there is NO data to go on.
