0801z....Johnson's C Trp began spotting ADA vehicles amongst the buildings in Heustreu. A Trp had re-positioned withing the woods, and Delta was watching for the Russian armor. It was now up to the Russian's to make the next move.....

Johnson was receiving reports that Bravo and Charlie were engaging the ADA units spotted in Heustreu. The C Trp vehicles backed off as they reported destroying 3 enemy units. This is what he wanted to hear. Stick em and move. "Blue 6 Black 6, keep up the pressure down the 2445. Again, do not become decisively engaged, over"... "Blue 6, roger over... "Calahan, I need you to conserve your force but at the same time you need to take whatever they give you. Ivan didn't expect to see you there and he'll react, but that's what I want. I want him to react to our moves....

0830z..."Sir Blue is reporting engaging multiple BMP's vic 210140." "Damn, where did they come from?" muttered Johnson. Johnson grabbed the mic. "Art, get your tanks moving to B Trp's position. I want to stop that emeny force in its tracks. Once you defeat them, I want you to attack towards the 279 overpass, over" Johnson didn't want to get mired down stationary fight, and it was time to take back some ground.

0844z...Johnson had rescinded his advance order to A Trp as C and B Trp's reported destroying the bulk of the Russian Mech Co. Both Troops reported heavy indirect fires hitting their positions as the Russian's brought their artillery to bear. Johnson reminded his Cdr's not to get decisively engaged and that also meant by Russian artillery. "Art, get a Plt into the east side of the woods you're in, Kelly send one Plt back into Wollbach" ordered Johnson. He needed to keep his units on the move. The Russian artillery was taking its toll.......

Johnson still had to contend with the Russian tank Co that was to the east of Bad Neustadt, but with his forces spread out, he couldn't concentrate his fires.

0900z..."Sir! C Trp reporting 20 BMP's vic 120180!" yelled Johnson's RTO. Johnson ordered his forces to pull back............

The arrival of two Mech Co's forced Johnson to realize he could not defeat the enemy forces arrayed against him. One Co, yeah, he could deal with them. Now reports were coming through that the tank Co had moved....

0932z...The lone Plt A Trp left behind found out that the tank Co had in fact crossed the river. In a sharp exchange, two enemy tanks were destroyed but another M1 had been hit. The Russian's gained the high ground overlooking the woods....

Johnson made the decision to disengage his forces....

1002z... The Russian armor had advanced down the 279 and was engaged by the Delta Plt that had set up at the southern edge of Lebenhan. "Black 6 Green 6...engaged and destroyed 6 tanks vic 050162. Continuing to engage over"..came the spot report. Johnson ordered the bulk of his armor to the Delta Plt's location.....

1018z...Johnson knew he had to let the Russian mech Co's pass along the low rise that paralleled the river. HE was hoping they would fall into the kill zone that Delta had set up. The Russian armor was stopped along the 279 outside of Bad Neustadt as the enemy withdrew to lick its wounds....

A Company plus of burning vehicles marked the spot where the long ranged fires of Delta, and now Alpha, took its toll.

"Calahan, this is 6...I need some eyes on Heustreu. Let me know what's still there over" said Johnson. He still had the bulk of Charlie Trp intact. Bravo on the other hand was combat ineffective.

1158z...Johnson continued to monitor the Cmd net as reports kept coming in. His tanks were engaging the mech Co as well as the Russian armor and were scoring kills. The hill were the battle began was now covered in burning vehicles.

"6, this is Blue 6, I have eyes in Heustreu. Only contact was an HQ which pulled out over". reported Calahan. "I'm sending a Section down there to reinforce the position, over." Johnson thought for a moment. If he could continue to keep the Russians' busy at Bad Neustadt, he might be able to sneak in the Russian backdoor.........

All elements, this is Black 6, we've been ordered to disengage and pull back vic 090040 to consolidate and rearm.

Although by victory points, this was a tactical loss, preventing the Russian's from advancing down the 279 corridor for 8hrs was more of a victory for the 2/11/ACR as they actually bought time for NATO....

The final positions...

The final positions....Although by victory points this was a tactical loss, delaying the Russian attack for 8hrs and not allowing the enemy to utilize the 279 corridor gave NATO time to react..
