To align Finland early can be a mistake; since it lets the URSS measure where you'll go with the Finns.
To align them at the first impulses of war - after they deployed reserves - the Finns can easily measure if it worth to seize Murmansk for free (with 1 unit) or screen Leningrad and seize Murmansk to prevent Lend Lease.
What you have here is an example of weather control. If the Allies had chosen to go second, the weather would have been good the whole turn, and Russia would have been invaded. As it is, the weather started off bad, and might continue that way. In other words, whatever the Allies chose was wrong. Isn't it wonderful how WiF works? [:)]ORIGINAL: rkr1958
Turn 10. Mar/Apr 1941. Initiative.
The axis roll a 1 and the allies a 6. With no modification the final result for the first roll is 1-6. The axis elect NOT to re-roll. The allies decide to go first. Again this was a tricky decision, however, the allies wanted to minimize the opportunity for the Germans to invade the Soviet Union this turn if the Germans got a favorable weather roll to that end. Also, there is the near alignment of Persia to the Italians to think about too.
The bottom line is that the allies choose to go first.

The unmodified weather roll is a 1, which results in a modified weather roll of 3.

Also the VVS is useless in the surprise impulse, upfront. It only risks to be bombarded - and pinned on the ground - and stomped all over (with loss of plane and pilot). At best place your airplanes on their own - and not stacked with land units if you want them ready for action the 1st Soviet impulse of war.

The Soviets should redeploy their front - it's very weak by how you deployed it.
With the current upfront deployment - the Germans would just fire a supercombined (eventually); hole the front in various places and pin on the spot most of the Soviet ground forces.
They'd have just their reserves, disrupted already, in cities somewhere around.

Also a small scale offensive at Pestamo could be evaluated (and 1 CP built and placed in Murmansk - or even a CW CP can do the trick if Pestamo falls.)
Finland will have hard time reinforce it - meanwhile Russians have a natural supply source and can pour more units there. It's 1 resource extra for Soviets and one less for Axis (if Soviets can spare the troops).
