Troop replacements & morale

Post by jcjordan »

I've had the entire 3rd Aust Div in Brisbane for 3 months but it has never gotten any replacements of troops nor equipment. Morale hasn't risen any appreciable amount either. I thought troops & equipment should be replaced in a rear area as well as morale should have risen a very good amount though fatigue & disruption has gone way down. Is this not so in UV or was it not included in UV due to limited time frame of UV. I've seen engineer & sometimes base units get replacements that come in as 1/xx unit but never saw anything like that for the 3rd Aust Div brigades.

I've seen this, too. It happens to the 7th Oz division, as well, in my experience.

On what may be a related note, there seems to be a problem with replacing unit losses from malaria. For example, a brigade will start with 105 infantry squads in its TO&E, go into action in a malaria zone, and lose some strength to the point where its display screen shows a maximum possible alltoment of, say, 102 squads. No matter how long the unit stays in a non-malaria base, it never reverts to full potential strength - in the example, it stays at 102 squads and never again can contain 105. I have seen this with both Allied and Japanese units, by the way.

This happens with equipment, such as artillery and vehicles, too. I think that it may be related to the "radar catching malaria" bug that was fixed back in the 1.xx series of versions. You may recall that radar equipment would disappear from a base unit and never return. The "fix" was to make it immune to malaria effects. What has to be done, I think, is to limit "malaria damage" to the number of squads, tanks, artillery pieces, or whatever actually present without also reducing the maximum amount allowed to the unit in its starting TO&E.
Put my faith in the people
And the people let me down.
So, I turned the other way,
And I carry on anyhow.

You have to loose at least 25% of the unit's strength or at least 10 items (ie guns, squads, etc) before the unit becomes elegible to get a replacement unit formed up. Small losses are not going to generate a unit.

Radar is a separate issue as it is hardcoded and not an actual unit as far as the actual unit. If you look in the database for a unit, you'll find that none have radar sets. The game randomly assigns them at game start. Because of this, the database entry says the unit never had radar so there is nothing to replace :D

Hhhmmmm, items on hand that are not in the property book.

I can't believe that would ever happen ("Where did you get that Radar set Sergeant?", "Sir, I just 'found it'").....

Maybe those Oz divisions really are getting new equipment, they are just selling it off to buy beer. :)
