Community scenarios

Post by TMO »

I read with some interest recently about developments being made by one or two of you guys to create new scenarios. Just wondered how things were going and how the new game will affect your labour.

As regards the 'Opertion Mercury' (Crete 1941) project I'm going to wait for the new game now. Although I've got the OOBs ready, HTTR should have the estabs for the 'Fallschirmjaeger' and, I hope, the 'Gebirgsjaeger' units. Although they will still need altering to bring them into line with the 1941 estabs it will much easier to do and give a more satisfying result. I hope :)

Gebirgsjaeger are light mountain troops. The 5th Gebirgs division was involved in the assault on Crete, some were airlifted in, others landed by sea. See www.eagle19.freeserve.co.uk/crete.htm for useful info on the Germans at Crete

Regarding my 2 scenario's, I'm basically waiting for HTTR to come out.
With HTTR I finally will get my hands on the new Coy's....of course I will spend way too much time on the game first but after that I will start working on the scenario's again :).

WOW! Very Nice. Looking forward to the new game and some great community scenarios. While I do not create maps or scenarios, I do appreciate the hard work put into them and everyone producing them, I thank you in advance.
We aim to please, unless there is a clear headshot.

Oh BOY, do I look forward to that allready !!!

Spent my last summer holiday on Crete. Stayed in Rethymon and visited some of the spots mentioned in the books I read before the trip. It´s mind twisting to stand in the dry river beds where fierce fights took place 60 years ago.

Of course we visited Maleme, Chania and Heraklion too.

But Crete is of course not only Operation Mercury. It´s a stunning island with a rough and beautyfull countryside and a stunning history too. Doesn´get boring there easily ;)

Hi

Let me just say that those maps look fantastic! I look forward to them very much as well as to the Neijmegen and Eindhoven battles that will be included in the upcoming HTTR. The more battles the better:)

Cheers

Back in 1979 I visited Crete with my wife armed with a letter of introduction from Lou Lind, a work colleague who I didn't really know that well at the time. It turned out he was an Australian Army captain who was captured on Crete, escaped and fought with and helped organise the resistence on Crete. His letter of introduction was like gold.

We had such a great time then, visiting the battlefields. The people were terrific. We were even shown the inlet where the British subs used to pick up escapees and drop off agents. A great time and a great place. :)

I've created this map as separate layers in photoshop so that I can develop it when the game comes out.

The town in the lower right hand corner is St. Lo. The map has been pieced together from maps at:

http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/BOOKS/WWII/1 ... t-lo_0.htm

The countryside is about 80% hedgerow, which will need to be created as an terrain element, probably in place of polder.

It's a work in progress, and comments are welcome. I'm sure I'll need help creating the map.

I would also like to develop a map for Mortain. Can anyone recommend sources?
