Care to share any thoughts regarding the defense of Vietnam?

(in reply to Lokasenna)

Why no, I wouldn't [:D].

Task Force Haruna spotted and attacked. Will they disband in port before dawn or not?

How many times will Nagoya be naval bombarded? The first 25 ship TF is pounding the destroyed city right now!

Uh-oh![X(]

3 large naval bombardments, now followed by massed aerial bombardment.

Nagoya will most likely not get a reprieve...

Can they hold?

Darnation![X(]

TF Haruna doesn't disband, and what is worse, is some Hellcats come calling at dawns early break.

How in the world did the Allies cotton onto this?

A grim day for the Haruna I suspect!

A grim day at Nagoya.

A grim day for the Empire I suspect.

But, lo and behold! The fighters are laden with bombs, and dive for the ocean. Hugging the waters, and the Oscars are amongst them cannons barking!

A few lucky ones break thru the now low fighter CAP...and miss.

A victory for the Oscar!

The Hellcats try again against TF Haruna in the afternoon. The Marine aviators are brave but futile; many pilots break off and return home. None penetrate the Oscars.

And the Allies don't attack at Nagoya. This is actually very bad news, as a week of full out aerial bombardments combined with naval shells will probably doom the city.

At Iki-shima, I sent some barges with an Army aviation unit. I thought, that if TF Haruna was spotted the barges might make for a convenient reason. The is now 0 DL on Iki-shima,but the Allies must know the mighty Haruna is disbanded in port.

Allied shipping disappeared from Shikoku...which might simply be depleted naval search from my end.

What to do with the spotted TF Haruna....race into Shikoku along with mtb squadrons? Naval bombard the massive air base there (no way, we would never get there and be surprised by Allied patrols), or flee back to the relative safety of the Yellow Sea for now. Or something like move to Tokuyama and try to disband before the morning air strikes since it has 0 DL.

The Deathstar has headed further east and is at Tsu.

Decisions, decisions.[&:]

I had forgotten that the Allies had a squadron of fighters on low naval attack...they probably would have done wonders shooting up the barges.

TF Haruna is fully loaded and ready for whatever I decide.

I think I may sortie the remaining battleships to head west and look to slow down, or interfere with the next Allied landings along the China coast. Perhaps if I can get them hidden in a dot base they can accomplish something.

CV Katsuragi is in the PI, at a secret base, waiting to pounce on something.

Japan's resources are dwindling. Dwindling. But I only need live for a few more months. The race is on.[;)]

The Oscar IV is really my last fighter in production...thanks to the factory at Harbin.

I have done my fair share of badmouthing the plucky little guy, but rather you need to realize how excellent a plane it is when used correctly.

Just need to avoid those Corsairs, Jugs, and Spitfires in 1944.

Vietnam is a great place to fight in.

Be careful of supplies, my undoing.[;)]

Be careful of invasions from Hanoi to the east, my undoing.[;)]

But given those two caveats, you should be able to really slow the Allied juggernaut here in many different places given the great terrain and rivers.

Lang Son should become a r&r facility. It is not malaria infested. The Coast Railroad gives you lots of great bases for Franks.

I was pretty much outnumbered 2-1 everywhere in AV, and was able to hold until supplies ran out despite Allied air control.

No reduction in Allied bombardments, Allies have 9 battleships floating around here plus another 3 at Cam Ranh Bay, plus whatever they have with the deathstar.

Task Force Haruna gets hit by a night attack of Avengers, and one puts a torpedo into the Haruna, despite LRCAP with Irvings.

I have never hit a ship at night...Allies repeatedly do it with Avengers. Sigh.[8|]

Nagoya bombarded four, five times and by another BB so there are 10 in the homewaters at least.

Now, Nagoya will suffer endless air assaults prior to the shock attack. Long day...
