Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

creation of russian air units

Post by Dinglir »

Reading the manual on air group creation: "New Soviet air group units (aviation regimental sized) are automatically created by the computer based on the size of the production pool. The computer compares the production pool of a particular aircraft versus the number of air group units using the aircraft type. If it determines that there are more than sufficient aircraft to meet the needs of the current air group units, than additional air group units will be formed"

When does this happen?

In a game with me as the russians, it is now mid october 1941, and I have 1042 U-2VS tactical bombers. Still, the machine has yet to create my first air group unit using U-2VS's.

This does sounds strange to me, as I could sustain losing every single machine in a 20 machine unit for more than 50 turns - not counting production which is a lot more than 20 pr turn.

The rules were changed since then. In the most recent game updates, you now build your own air units just like you would a land unit. The difference is that it costs 1AP for each air unit or air base. You will have the option to choose type and are limited in how many you can build per turn.

It's been a while for me but I just started a new game as Soviet, are the air units built with Shift-B next to a city like on map units?

Yes, just like ground units. However the option is available only from August 41.

Axis units can't be created, only automatically rebuild after being destroyed.

Hi, You shift-b next to urban hex. The units arrive in your National Reserve the following turn. But they need to remain there for a while since their morale and experience are in the 30's
