JFB for FOCUS PACIFIC scenario
Title says it all. This will be fun. Looking for LONG time game. No quitters. Should be able to do 7+ turns a week. The ideal JFB will be experienced. Having some play time with some of the great mods using the extended map is a plus. PM me for some interesting HR's....GP

RE: JFB for FOCUS PACIFIC scenario 71 active Soviets wanted
Patton is a great opponent. He is timely with turns, a good communicator, honorable and reliable. If any JFBs want to try something new with Focus Pacific I don't think you could ask for a better opponent.

RE: JFB for FOCUS PACIFIC scenario 71 active Soviets wanted
I'm sure there are a few JFBs checking into these Opponent Wanted posts. This one (me) is still in training in my first full campaign PBEM game. It will be awhile before I am ready to take on another game.
I have been reading about the Focus Pacific mod - some very interesting ideas and some not so from my limited perspective:
Soviet Active?
From the posts I have read in the mod thread, it sounded like the Japanese side is overwhelmed with no hope of holding, much less taking offensive actions in China. This complication plus the added pressure of Soviet air and subs in home waters makes me curious what are the 'balancing factors'?
A couple of Waffen SS Pz Corps on loan with all the necessary supplies?
More Japanese ASW forces?
All the Nates and Claudes start off replaced with something more useful for combat?
I am honestly curious about this. Maybe some discussion here will draw out an opponent for you.
I hope the mod continues as I like the idea of 'alternate histories'.
(as for me at my level of experience)
This is pretty exotic and I feel you should be looking not just any JFB, but one who is already highly experienced in the base game. Otherwise it will be a quick and ugly beating for the Evil Empire. Not much fun there.
Another problem is that a lot of experienced players, if currently playing, already have a game going. Therefore, the longevity of the game commitment and the exotic nature of the mod probably limits the pool of potential opponents.
Good luck though and I would appreached any info about the concerns mentioned.
As stated I hope these questions bring some attention to your request and might clear up (at least my) misconceptions about what 'Active Soviet' in the Focus Pacific mod really means.

RE: JFB for FOCUS PACIFIC scenario 71 active Soviets wanted
From playing both as the Allies and the Japanese in Focus Pacific PBEMs, I can assure you that it is Japan that has the advantage in Asia, at least until the big Soviet reinforcements begin arriving later in the game. Japan can easily gain air superiority over vital areas of the Soviet Union, which means that they can hunt the Soviet Navy from the air with impunity unless a savvy allied player is very careful. The Japanese player also starts out with 7,000 additional AV in Manchuko compared to stock, giving them the means to cut off the vital Soviet rail line at any point they choose. They may he thrown back by a Soviet counter-attack, but the length and vulnerability of that line gives the Japanese player the ability to dictate where the fight will take place, as the Allied player cannot afford to have Vladivostok cut off from the rest of the Soviet Union.
While the Chinese air-force is a little better, and China has better supplies and replacement rates than in stock, none of that matters in 1941 and 1942, as the Japanese player can still push on Chunking just like in stock. The Chinese still start out in such a bad position, with their forces scattered over the country and not concentrated, that the Japanese player can put the hurt on China very effectively.
Japan has plenty of sub chasers on turn one that can help with Soviet subs. A savvy player will also mine the exits of the Sea of Japan around Tsushima and Hakodate to make it tougher for Soviet subs to escape.
While not all Nates and Claudes are replaced with more useful planes, the Japanese player starts out with hundreds more Zeroes and Oscars than in stock.

Thanks for the reply.
7000 AV can help.
That would be about 15 extra divisions or so. That will eat up a lot of supplies. In a Scenario 2 game, I am getting lack of supply warnings all over Manchuko/China and I have pulled out at least 3 Divisions from this theater for DEI/Burma.
As to Nates and Claudes: more crappy planes means more dead pilots. Did you tweak the pilot pools/manpower levels as well? (Is that possible?) Point is, increasing the air war attrition would appear to me to just accelerate the deteriation of Japanese pilot pools.
I wish I had more time to dedicate to WitPAE as I still have to maintain a j.o.b. to support my gaming addiction. Apologies for not having time to help with your mod development.
I do note your use of the word 'savvy', meaning (to me) that is mod is for the more experienced players.
Good luck and hopefully GP gets his JFB opponent.

Japanese pilot pools are larger in Focus Pacific.

Paradigm obviously knows better, but I think supply has also been boosted a lot for the JFB, no? The JFB still has to take the DEI, but there's a lot more available to support the extra forces.
Cheers,
Eric

That is correct.

We can go without the Soviets if I have to. It will cut back some on the second turn orders....GP

RE: JFB for FOCUS PACIFIC scenario 71 active Soviets wanted
There are some very nice oil sources in Russian bases that the Russians simply can't defend such as Petropavlosk (name?) on the Amchatka peninsula and on Sakhalin Island.
The scenario with the Russians active opens up some real interesting possibilities.
It's only in AI games where the Japanese get trashed early and prevented from ever expanding, but keeping the AI from conquering China and instead reconquering the majority of it with the Chinese is easy enough to do in stock scenarios.
Focus Pacific really doesn't alter that equation.

I get it Hans. But finding someone to go the distance seems to be a problem. So I raised the bar a little. There are ways to reinforce Soviet areas within HR's and common sense and get the job done. some of it takes about 40 to 60 days but it is do able and requires PP's. A lot of them....GP

This thread is temporarily closed. Some additional work is now underway on the mod. If you are a JFB who is interested however and would like to get intimate with the IJ in this mod, we could use the help on the IJ economy and upgrade paths for ships....GP

The countdown is on. Focus Pacific should be ready to go in 3 weeks or so.
I am looking for a JFB who can do 7 to 10 turns a week.
Will go the duration and not quit.
We can talk HR later.
PM or Email me....GP
