Our subs are sailing around.

The air strikes on the units in the open between Canton and Hong Kong were devastating and will continue tomorrow. There are now 4 units there. Flying shoulder patches identified them as support units, and the reduced troop count now in Canton, ~58,000, indicates they are moving from Canton to Hong Kong. Our P-47D25 groups at Pakhoi conducted sweeps over Shaoyang, hoping to draw out some of the massed enemy fighters at Changsha. It worked pretty well! See the air losses. Movement of forces to the points of contact at Canton and Kweilin continues, and to Kukong.

Assault at Jahore Bahru tomorrow in hope of seizing the last base before Singapore. And at Kuantan where the paras have recovered. Some Imperial shipping has fled the Cocos Islands and is heading for the Sunda Strait. CV HMS Indefatigable was covering a landing at Toboali and was in position to destroy the fastest convoy.

There are 13 ships at Cocos Islands. CL Emerald was damaged to within a whisker of sinking in her most recent surface battles. For what seemed like forever, she was been repairing, first at Calcutta and most recently at Bombay. She is now fully fit and sporting a new coat of paint to boot! Emerald will post to Batavia and serve on ghost ship patrol plus bombard Cocos Islands until that situation is fully resolved.

No fortification reduction at either one. Too many casualties at Amami Oshima despite having a disruption (-) for the defenders. The casualty ratio at Nago makes me think the attack made progress toward cracking the defenses.

Our artillery at both places will continue bombarding and the assault troops will take as long as they need to recover. Naval and air bombardment will of course continue, and additional air strike assets will be brought in as base expansion allows. The 2x B-25H squadrons making runs over Nago will change to 10,000 ft to reduce flak losses. The fast BB did not make it to bombard Amami Oshima; they will be diverted to hit Nago instead, because the next attack will be there.

Yesterday a fleet CV TF and a CVE TF replenished at Guam and are en route back to Okinawa. Today two more fleet CV TF are heading back to Guam. One CVE TF will arrive at Guam tomorrow and make a quick turnaround. The USA 41st Infantry Division at Naha has been ordered to prepare for Amami Oshima, just in case the matter lasts long enough for them to be needed when they are prepared. The division needs almost 70 main squads plus others and has been broken into regiments and those put in Rest mode to draw replacements more frequently.

Malay Peninsula and Sumatra. Near Sipora and Siberoet you can see the fast British battleships plus Richelieu. They are bound for Cocos Island to bombard, then retire to Cam Ranh Bay.

I swept 2 hexes away from their base, so I cheated as much as possible. Before and after recon numbers looks like we got ~40% of the fighters there, but obviously I can't say what they all are. Only what responded to the sweeps. BTW, the sweeps were all from the same base but totally uncoordinated. If better they might have REALLY cleaned up! Even still the last two IIRC (plus all the little straggler sweeps) found no opposition.

Tomorrow the P-47D25 will sweep the hex where those units are out in the open, just in case DAW HQ tries a CAP trap since we took the bait and hit them the first day. A bunch of P-51D are escorting the 2EB so they are pretty well covered.

Two CL bombarded Hong Kong to disrupt naval search elements that appear to be there. That TF and another 2x DD TF damaged several SSX.

And she is in-hex with a fleet carrier accompanied by a light escort screen. Two destroyer TF will race there from nearby Batavia. If Haruna proceeds toward the South China Sea she will run into many dangers. If she reverses course and sails through the Java Sea she will be targeted by dive bombers at Sampit. A Beaufighter TFX squadron is moving from Soc Trang to Kalidjati to provide torpedo attack coverage of a potential Haruna course through the Java Sea, and other air assets have been rearranged or re-tasked. The main carrier force is just east of Cocos Island and cannot catch Haruna unless she slows down. Two destroyer TF missed her passage through the Sunda Strait.

Movement against Palembang will take more than a week because I am going to wait for the first of the divisions to arrive. The other division and a brigade will take even longer but we shouldn't need them.

14th NZ will make Iloilo tomorrow and assault immediately. A base force is unloading at San Jose now and will follow. Tomorrow most of a Bn will arrive at San Jose. Dadjangas invasion still loading supply. Avengers from CVL Langley sank an E at Manila.

The naval and aerial bombardments at Nago and Amami Oshima are rather weak. The artillery bombardment was good at Nago, poor at Amami Oshima.

Too many gun casualties at Amami Oshima so those bombardments will cease, but Nago will continue. AV at Nago is 1,869, at Amami Oshima is 1,029. We have 2x AKE at Naha and will begin moving in more replenishment ships from Daito Shoto. As far as I can tell the mines at Nago have all been cleared, and the mine sweeping TF will move on to Kume Jima in case there are undetected fields there, then on to Okinoerabushima.

The last (fourth) fleet CV TF is retiring to Guam to replenish. The next employment of the fleet carriers will be the invasion of Formosa so I want to get sorties topped off and replace plane losses.
