City Points for Victory

Post by LiquidSky »

I am playing a friend of mine who has played lots of WiTE, but hasn't played WiTW....and he keeps asking me questions I cant seem to answer...this one is puzzling me.

I am in Sicily..turn 4.

I own 4 city hexes. Agrigento, Modica, Siracusa, and Catania.

Two of them have Ports.

According to the rule book, that should be 1 each for City hexes, plus two more for the ports....which equals 6.

But according to the VP screen, it says I have 8 City Points.

I thought maybe the cities in Libya would count, although I am pretty sure I started with 0 city points...but the math wont work their either.

The only way I can see the math working is if it is counting every city I have taken as 2 points.

It bothers me that I cant answer my friends question on how vps are scored.
Also..if the divisor is 4 and I have 8 City points...wouldn't that equal 2 City VPs?

Gela is also a port

Maybe Pantelleria counts; it is in Italy

Those two would make 8

Well...

The rules say you get 1 point for City. 3 points for Light Urban (Urban in game), and 5 points for Heavy Urban.

They also say you get +1 point for a Permanent Port (or Mulberry) in same hex as above...meaning in a City/Urban/Heavy Urban hex.

But I think you are right..the math makes sense now. You do start with 1 point which must be the port in Pantelleria. And the other point is the port in Gela. The math fits.

Hmm....I am still at a loss as to how city points are calculated.

I have all of Sicily. Cities: Messina, Siracusa, Modica, Agrigento, Marsala, Trapani.
Urban: Palermo

I have some of Sardinia. Cities: Sasari, Cagliari.

That would be 8 points for cities. 3 points for Palermo. 11 points total.

EDIT: My victory tab says I have 24 city points.

I have 2 ports on Sardinia. 7 ports on Sicily. 1 port on Pantelleria. 10 total.

I also have 2 ports on Corsica..which is French. Which gives me 2 more.

Total: 23 points...so I am missing one somewhere.

You're missing Catania on Sicily. I know at one point we had problems with this so we had debug text printing out the list. I remember going through it and we got it all working to our satisfaction at one point and hopefully it's all still working.

Ahhh good. My head was starting to hurt. I guess the biggest problem I had with it was the manual telling me that the ports only counted if they were in cities/urban/heavy urban hexes. Or maybe implying it.

The biggest eyeopener is how much Rome is worth in 1943. 30 city points divided by 4 for 7vp's/turn.
