Windows 10 problems

Post by boxof9 »

I bought a new pc with windows 10 and am having trouble with WITPAE running slow. No problems when I was using my ancient vista.

I'm sure others have had this issue. What can I do to resolve this?

There are many threads in the Tech Support sub-forum on Windows 10 problems:

I've had this problem for over a year and none of the advice given in the different threads here have helped me.
Now, I'm just living with it, afraid to bungle my system. Anyhow, good luck in fixing it on your PC....[:)]

Heeding Mr Dolson's advice I added these switches and my problems went away...New computer with win10..

\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\autorun.exe" -altFont -archive -deepColor -SingleCpuOrders -dd_sw

NOTE:Since all of the switches may not be relevant to your machine...you might look to remove a couple at your option, one at a time.

The most common problem solver is the -deepColor switch

The -dd_sw switch helped my new Windows 10 machine considerably. I also found benefit from the -deepColor switch. I'm running an Intel i5 processor.

As an aside, I think someone mentioned to be careful of the syntax when entering the switches? i.e., upper/lower case letters may matter, as well as the hyphen-vs-emdash issue?

WIN 10 machine, right click the desktop shortcut-click on properties - click the shortcut tab - add to target[not start in] -deepColor -dd_sw .. solved my incredibly slow game
example - my game is located on a E drive, folder Matrix Games.

desktop shortcut target, include the parenthesis- When I first tried this, thought the parenthesis should be ignored- my old DOS methods screwing me up

"E:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -deepColor -dd_sw

Thank you for your response. Just to be clear I have a target box(which is already populated) and a start in box. I enter the script into the target box. Correct?

YES, just add [for some reason C in deepColor is capitalized]. -deepColor -dd_sw
add after parenthesis in the target box
make sure you leave a space between the parenthesis and -deepColor -dd_sw

Had same issues. The trick is to alter the "Quick Start" launcher, and then to create a new desktop item of that. Not the already originally created desktop one at install(at least in my experience). The Readme file included upon install has excellent instructions.

Welcome Box of 9. Hope to meet you someday in Buna...
