STUG III/IV is under rated.

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

STUG III/IV is under rated.

Post by varjager »

While playing Spwaw i hgave notived that the stug is no more than an ordinary spg.The stug battalions where all "freiwilligen" and where composed of some of the best soldiers in the German army. But that is in no way pictured in the Spwaw. The should have the elite status in my opinion. What do the rest of you think?
Happy easter holiday!

This has been discussed in the OOB forum, and I believe changes have been made for ver 5.0
a quote from someone who knows.....

"Yes, I had advocated a raise in StuG fire Control,or Stab number to reflect the fact that for the most part, the StuG crews were volunteer, and generally better trained, with the weaponry of the Stug, than an average tank crew. I think they were worked on, but haven't checked for sure."

Stug crews also had stereoscopic (or maybe coincidence) rangefinders!! I've seeen several photos of the commander using a small range finder in his cupola. This should help out with long range fire.

Stug formations are now consdered "elite" and given +10 experience over regulars. We did not change the vehicle characterists, we think those are pretty accurate. SInce the critique is the quality of the crew, we think the +10 experience helps portray that.

Hi

It's good that you increase the experience value, but how about the artillery value? Many of those men had an artillery background and this is also true for the Finnish Stug crews.

Someone said:

Stug units were part of the field artillery so they had same kind of optics. A better range finder value would be right here. Later in the war equipment were no so good. For example the rotative commander's cupola with periscopes was later fixed.

BTW. Where are those artillery, armour and infantry command values used?

Cause in the game as it stand the stug is almost useless.I lost more stugs than tanks in games.

Varjager, yes I lobbied for this awhile back, and it's in there, they WERE Freiwilligen, and are now as accurately portrayed as possible ;) Glad to see others realized this also!!
