Imperial air strikes hit our Aus 9th Div in the open in the Changsha region (CAP evaded again!). Actual damage was modest but disruption is very great. Many other units have caught up and all are moving on to the woods in the next hex where there is cover and - maybe - also enemy troops. Kanhsien was overwhelmed by devastating sir strikes, then beset by men jumping out of airplanes.

The road between Kunming and Kweiyang is being contested, even as other enemy forces withdraw farther along the road from Kunming toward Chungking. The last division assigned has reached Canton (a day sooner than expected) but we will wait for a TD Bn guarding the road to the east to reenter the city before attacking. All 2EB and F on ground attack will target Canton beginning tomorrow, joining the 4EB. Attack at Kukong tomorrow.

AV is 925 but disruption is much lower than after previous attacks, and those casualties will cost the Japanese perhaps 3x what they cost us in adjusted AV. Naval bombardments tomorrow will be minimal in preparation for maximum effort the following day, along with another ground assault. Our troops will not recover very much AV in only 2 days, but should be in decent shape disruption-wise and might be able to take advantage of the defenders recovering even less.

Three base forces and a regiment (which will move SE) landed today and are transitioning out of strategic movement mode. Mines are being cleared at Takao. Despite some damage remaining to the runways and services at Takao's airfields, yesterday one fighter squadron moved in, followed today by four more plus four 2EB squadrons. The 2EB, all attack variants, and a P-38L squadron will make strikes on the withdrawing troops to the north. The British and French battleships hit Amoy to suppress bombers seen there.

AV at Singapore is 3,577 and disruption is recovering. Minimum 2 more days rest, at which time we might attack with divisions in rotation to keep the defenders stressed each day or perhaps 2 days out of 3. More air strikes on the ghost ship fleet located at Cocos Islands. One of these days we will seize that base.

Attack at Davao tomorrow. A USA Rgt is mostly ashore at Digos and will march NW to Cotabato. For some reason, the Legaspi invasion convoy stopped loading supply at a certain level but continued to indicate "loading". There are 23k supply on board, so the invasion will proceed with that and more will follow anyway. D-Day is in about 3 days. Two CVE TF will provide cover, plus the new base at Iloilo, and a large DD TF (Burke CO) currently in the Sulu Sea.

Two newly arrived old USN battleships, Arkansas and New York, have finally made it to Naha and will participate in tonight's bombardment of Amami Oshima. Troops at Amami Oshima are ready and AV is 953. Man those battleships use up supply! More unloading at Naha and more on the way.

Armor will attack at Kagi tomorrow. It will be 2 days before the infantry divisions catch up.
