HQ Op Points and Shattering Query

Post by Lienz Cossack »

Playing the Russians in WiR 3.3 I have noticed that Soviet divisions tend to shatter alot during Blitzkrieg if they have high readiness (uncorrected bug mentioned in another thread).

However, it seems to me that sometimes non-special supplied units will shatter rather than retreat because the Op Points of their HQ have been reduced by other activities, namely special supply to under 10-20 and that the retreating movement cost of the army in Op Points is greater than the amount the HQ has available.

Is this true?

Also are entrenchment levels proportional to unit size, I mean if I have an infaantry division with 100 squads in it they are fortifying the area for their division (100 squads), if I then transfer in a 1000 point tank army I think that the level of entrenchment should be proportionally using a weighted average formula. May be this is done already but I am not sure.

Nope. A single flak unit will entrench just as quickly as your biggest Shock Army up to date. You can create second lines of defence this way.

Regarding ops points and shattering, if the HQ ops points are below 50 points, there is a random chance, increasing as the ops points drop lower, that units in any corps/army in combat will suffer massive readiness loss, each division/unit checked separately. If ops points are very low and many divisions lose readiness, the units may shatter from the combat. I think this may be fairly common when below 20 ops points or so, based on experience.

A question: Does the "increased" readiness loss due to reduced readiness apply to both attacking and defending units or does it only apply to defending units (maybe im just too stupid to understand what you posted above :) ).

It applies to both, I believe. I know it does for the defenders, and I believe it can happen to the attacker, but the attacker may be able to get additional support from superior HQs.

Ricky B,

Do you know what the actual formula is for the readiness loss check, assuming that the random factor is X?

No definite idea, but I would guess it is something like a random number between 1 and 50, if greater than HQ ops points the division is penalized. The check is by each division. The penalty reduces the division readiness by half, to a minimum of 25%.
