Mabe A Big Mistake

I inadvertently moved all the contents of my scenario folder to Windows One Drive, only to find out the entire folder, folder icon & all, was removed from the game folder & onto One Drive, meaning I had no scenarios in the game.

I've tried moving them back by creating a new scenarios folder in the game folder and then moving them back one by one, but when I start the game my list of scenarios is still empty. Am I totally dorked and have to do a complete re-install or can the files (which included a couple of scenarios I built myself) still be restored? Thanks in advance .

Can't you drag the folders from One drive back into your War in the Pacific folder?

I did that, but before I did I had to create a new empty folder for scenarios in the game files and dragged the folder from One Drive to there, but that folder became a sub folder in the new one. I dragged the now sub folder back to One Drive, deleted the empty scenario fold from the game files (after making sure it was empty) but couldn't drag the scenario folder back from One Drive without it winding up as a sub folder in another game file folder. The only way I could move it back was to drag each individual scenario back into a newly created scenario folder.

Now, when I click on the scenarios tab on the game start page it has no scenarios listed. Also, when I open the editor there is no background pic (normally its the one of the CL stern) and there are no scenarios listed there either. I double checked and there are scenarios listed in the newly created game file folder, there are just none showing up when I start the game or in the editor.

It should see the files in "C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\SCEN" or whatever "your base game directory is"\SCEN.
The back ground file is 'UV1024.png'.
Each scenario should have about 11 files (8 x wp?9999.dat, cam999.dat, scn999.cmt, 1 or more aei999*.dat)

Thanks, I'll take a look at that, but it will be a couple of days before I can do so, what with some training time be added onto my work schedule this week, oh to be retired and not have to deal with work.

Found the back ground file in the the SAVE folder, along with several scnXXX.cmt files and some wpaeXXX.pws files and an App file named witploadAE . In edition there is an AUTO SAVE sub-folder in there which contains several other wpaeXXX_#4_XXXXXXXX.pws, with the XXXXXXXX representing consecutive in game dates, I think. Are all these files in the right place & should there be a AUTO SAVE sub-folder with the main SAVE folder? Once again, thanks in advance.

Don't know why there's any .pws files in the scenarios folder, they are save files. I've looked and I have one and suspect it's erroneous and doesn't need to be there.

witploadAE is the game scenario editor.

The AUTOSAVE is because you added the -d to your start up command (more likely to appear as -wd) telling the game to create a backup save every turn. It can be deleted. Note, don't delete the -w part, that deals with wide screen.

It sounds like you mistakenly copied the contents of the SCEN folder into your SAVE folder.

Disclaimer - please don't take the following instructions as condescending - my only intent is to be as thorough as possible.

Some possible things to try:

1. If possible, copy the entire SCEN folder from OneDrive back to your WitP:AE directory instead of copying individual files. I don't use OneDrive myself, so I cannot provide more specific instructions on how this is accomplished.

2. Make sure you named the 'new' scenario folder exactly as SCEN - not SCENARIOS, etc. One reason it's better to copy the whole folder from OneDrive is that it eliminates the possibility of naming the new folder incorrectly.

3. Make sure you copy the SCEN folder into the main War in the Pacific - Admiral's Edition directory. Is it possible that you have installed it to more than one location? You might want to search your hard drive(s) just to make sure.

4. Take and upload screenshots of your file structure so we can get a better sense of what has happened.

Last Resort Options:

5. Since you seem to have copied the contents of your SCEN folder into your SAVE folder, you could copy the contents of the SAVE folder into the SCEN folder. Not the most elegant solution, but in theory it should work if in fact all the SCEN files are in the SAVE folder. Probably a good idea to make backups of both folders before you do this.

After you make a backup of the folders, an easy way to copy the files is by doing the following: open the SAVE folder. Press the Ctrl and A keys together to highlight all the files. Press Ctrl and C keys to copy all the files. Navigate to the SCEN folder. Press the Ctrl and V keys to paste all the copied files into the SCEN folder.

6. Make backups of the SCEN and SAVE folders, try uninstalling and re-installing WiTP:AE, and then re-transfering the files from OneDrive.

Thanks guys for the help ya'll. I now have all my scenarios files back where they belong and back to playing again, which is perfect 'cause I'm taking the week off from work.
