Transport vs Cargo

Post by Rayfer »

What is the difference between a transport tf and a cargo tf for moving supplies and fuel. When would one be used over the other? Thanks, Ray

From memory, if you create a cargo TF to move supplies, transport ships (xAP) cannot be added to the TF even though they can transport supplies.

And you don't haul fuel in xAK and xAP ships, because winners don't use drugs, right?

Elaborating on Yabb's response, the differences are minor.

Selecting cargo TF will filter out the xAPs and APs in the selection screen making selection easier.

Some ship types capable of being used as escorts can only be used in one type of TF and not the other, such as the YMS which can be in a Transport TF but not a Cargo TF.

IIRC they also have a different icon on the map so you can tell the difference eat a glance.

It also helps the player remember what the TF is for, if seen on the board. The icon for a Cargo TF is different from that of a Transport TF, and thus you will be reminded of which is which. A transport TF can carry oil, gas, supplies, troops (in strategic mode) and aircraft (not in flying condition) while a cargo TF can only carry supplies.

Good idea to use the description box to label the TF with info that tells you what is on board.
Only complaint about this is that a one-ship TF will not display the label on roll-over. Very annoying when searching for a one-ship Air Transport TF carrying badly needed P-47s....

I'm sure it's by design to give you some incentive to add an escort to those badly needed P-47s. :)
