[center]Regarding Stacking Limits[/center]

I have been trying to reconcile the Stacking Number of Troops indicated at a particular base with the ground force troop numbers shown for the units at that particular base. Not once have I been able to reconcile the Stacking Numbers.

As many of you know, Operation Sea Shark involves invading the Marianas Islands. So, it is important to know how many troops I can invade a particular island with, for example Anatahan which has a Stacking Limit of 30,000.

Here is how I have been determining the Stacking Number for individual ground force units using the 21st Marine Infantry Regiment as an example:

Infantry: 1,571
Vehicles: 45
Guns: 94
Other Troops: 3,617

The total Stacking Number I get is 5,327

Is 5,327 the the correct number that would be applied toward the Stacking Limit of a base?

I think only people figure into the stacking numbers. Look at the bottom left of your LCU screen and find the "Stacking Cost". In a filled-out unit that should equal the total infantry and total support troops. It does not count vehicles and guns. Stacking limits are more about habitability than space available.

If there is a discrepancy between the Stacking Cost and the numbers of bodies shown in the Infantry/Support troops count for the LCU, I think that occurs when there are squads that have fewer than their standard number of troops. E.G. a bombing attack hits the unit and kills 10 troops and disables 15 squads of all kinds. The 10 destroyed troops come out of the squads and need to be replaced, but the Stacking Cost for a full squad is still counted for the unit because the entire squad was not destroyed. At least that is how I rationalize it from what I have seen.

Today, in China, Japan lost one aircraft and had nine damaged in exchange for six Chinese ground force casualties at Ankang.

The 42nd Chinese Corps, completely out of bullets, were easily pushed out of the road that they moved into yesterday to interdict Japanese supply.

El Lobo has spent considerable time mopping-up the scattered Chinese infantry units behind the Japanese front lines interdicting Japanese supply. The mop-up is coming to an end. Soon, El Lobo will be knocking on the gates of Chungking. Map of China is shown below.

The two Indian 3rd Special Forces Chindit Brigades (paratroopers)are at Dimapur. I have scavenged together roughly a Division (486 AV Total) that I have labeled "The Chindit Force" consisting of the following ground units:

119th RAF BF

11th Chindit Brigade
77th Chindit Brigade
268th Motorized Armor Brigade
1st Medium Artillery Regiment
2nd Medium Artillery Regiment

The Chindit Force is prepped for Bhamo.

I don't have any other paratroopers in India nor Burma.

Intelligence suggests that the Japanese have several AA units in Burma as well as several JAF units. If the Intelligence Reports can be believed, the 21st and 56th Divisions are at Rangoon, the 19th Division is at Ramree Island, the 114th Infantry Regiment is at Lashio, and the 4th Guards are at Shwebo. I suspect that El Lobo has more than I am aware of in Burma.

The Allies presently hold Akyab and Kalemyo.

I would like to trap and eliminate all Japanese in Burma.

To that end, the Allies will move as quickly as possible to secure the following Burma Bases: Ramree Island, Rangoon, Pegu, and Lashio.

The American Forces will cross the Burma Border South of the Imphal-Ledo Line into eight forest hexes and drive through Northern Burma toward China. The America Forces are prepped to capture Warazup, Myitkvina, Katha, Bhamo, Shwebo, Mandalay, Lashio, Magwe, and Mektila.

The Burma Corps, III India Corps, Eastern Army, and I Australia Corps will cross the Burma Border South of Cox's Bazar, pass through Akyab held by ABDA Forces, and drive toward Pegu. These fores are prepped to capture Ramree Island, Taung Gyi, Prome, Toungoo, Bassein, Rangoon, and Pegu.

Gentlemen of The War College-

Upon review of the Japanese bases shown on the Strategic Map below and in consideration of the date being October 12, 1942, it appears to me that El Lobo decided early-on to limit his expansion of the Japanese Empire.

This leads me to conclude that El Lobo has chosen to conserve his resources and to use them from the outset with a strategic plan to build a defense that is tight and strong. A smaller, tighter defense presents El Lobo with the opportunity to increase Port, Air Capacity, and Fort Levels faster and to have the troops to garrison these locations. Further, I suspect that El Lobo has kept in reserve a sizable "Reaction Force."

I believe the Allies are looking at a Japanese Bee Hive of inter-connected bases that can support each other and have already been considerably built-up.

El Lobo has played the "Beginning Game" to set himself up for the "End Game."

Would you concur?

The good news is he did not expand at all into the Gilberts, or much into the Marshalls. Nor did he advance into eastern NG or Rabaul or the Solomons.

Unfortunately, in accordance with Operation Sea Shark, that is also the bad news, because these would have only served as additional places in which to isolate him.

Once China falls, his relatively small defensive perimeter is going to be a tough nut to crack.

I'd like to study another AAR in which the Japanese player chose such a "non-expansionary" course.
