How do I manually task intercepts to ID?

Post by Rongor »

I can't find a convenient way (by the simple right click menu) to task my unit to intercept some unknown contact. I can issue attack orders, but 1. I don't want to attack and 2. this turns the unknown contact into hostile.

I want to keep the unknown contact in the unknown category, until my unit intercepted and determined ID and stance of that contact. If it turns out to be a hostile contact, I have no problem with my unit starting to attack. Just not before.

I know there is a way to let units do that in set up missions. That is just not what I want to do in this case.

Intercepting to ID is such a basic task, I must be blind not to find the way to issue that simple task.

Thanks for any help.

Do they not do it automatically if assigned to a patrol ? I.e. Sea Patrol or AA CAP patrol ?

Hi,

Is this the situation what are you asking for:

"Your radar picks up a bogey, you have aircraft in the air or on the ground, and you want to manually order them to intercept that bogey"

In your way, first thing you will have to do is to launch aircraft from airbase or a carrier if it's grounded, then make the order to intercept unknown bogey,

If the aircraft is in the air you just want an option to intercept, like we have for an attack order with F1.

You can create intercept mission leave it empty and when the time comes you can assign desired aircraft to that mission.

With mission editor you have the option to check what will trigger the intercept mission, unknown, unfriendly or hostile contact, you can assign contacts what will interceptors check.

And if your aircraft are in the air you can quickly assign them to intercept mission, even if they are on other mission, and return them to first mission after they are done with the interception.

This is what I do, but I check "pre-planned target" box, select the bogey, then assign an aircraft.

Is it not the case that if you have rules of engagement set to "hostile only" that an F1 attack order will cause an aircraft to intercept, only opening fire if id'd as hostile?

Yes.

You could also use engagements zones that set any violator as unfriendly and interceptors will launch and do everything but attack.

Lot of ways to deal with this one.

Ok, so after all it doesn't work without setting up a mission.

That is exactly what I was looking for.

That is a lot more to do then, but apparently the only way to go. Thanks!

Cool. Issue closed for the time being but we'll definitely keep it in mind.

Thanks!
