Oil bug or a rule I've not taken into account?

Post by warspite1 »

In our latest game of MWIF the Free French have an oil saved in each of Gabon (Libreville) and Syria (Damascus).

The Free French have ten SCS and 4 convoys. We are playing with SiF but not CLiF. We are playing with Limited Overseas Supply.

There are CP forming an unbroken link to all units (most are in West Africa, one is in Australia and the rest in Syria). There is no CP in the Western Mediterranean.

When I click on the units sometimes I see both oil in the Oil Source Location and sometimes only one e.g. If I click on Bretagne (currently in Dakar, Senegal) - only the Libreville oil shows.

Is this a bug or am I missing a vital rule here? I suspect its a bug because there is no obvious reason for not showing the oil:

- All ships in Africa show only the Libreville oil (I thought perhaps the program is trying to find the quickest route and when it can't find a CP in the Western Med it gives up) BUT

- A CP in Tripoli (Syria) shows only the Damascus oil BUT the two units (a Convoy and a submarine) in Beirut (Syria) - and only one hex south - shows both.

- Finally the Lamotte-Picquet (in Australia) also shows both.

Some units could not have a route to reach a specific oil source - but I noticed that how routing is traced is rather buggy.

But let us say you have 1 oil point in Australia, and some oil consuming units disrupted in Australia; but the Japs have sunk all the CPs around Australia - the units in Australia will show you only the oil point stocked in Australia because they cannot reach any other oil point.

This is a known bug. Some oil resources can not reorganize some units they should be able to. I do not know why.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

As I said, there is an uninterrupted CP link to all units.

The global map shows that the CW has enough convoy points at sea. A unit that can trace oil from Syria should be able to trace oil from Libreville and reverse. That most unit do not have the option of selecting which oil it want to use is a bug.

CW has the same problem.

Its such a pity about that stupid CP in Tripoli. If it wasn't for that I would be pretty convinced the program is seeking a route via the Western Med.

But the fact is that, despite what we are being told by the program, in this specific case, the Free French can at least actually reorganise all ships using just one oil - but it was lucky I realised it and no doubt there may well be situations where the actual outcome is not as per the rules allow.

Don't worry about double oil cost. If you spend 0.6 of two different oil resources the program forces you to eliminate one of them since the total is only 1.2. It is only if the total is 1.5 or more that both oil are expanded.

This is just annoying that the wrong oil is used. And at some points there are actually units that could be reorganized but not allowed because the program can not find the oil to use.

AAARRRGGHHHH [:@]

Yes I've just followed the turn through to ensure that when I use the Syrian oil, all units actually reorganise and guess what? They do.... but the program has used the Libreville oil.....

I feel angry trousers are the order of the day....
