Strat Road Movement Loophole

Post by witpqs »

Some nations' LCUs get to use strategic road movement, Commonwealth is one nationality code that does not get this benefit. But if you have a unit in the same base that does get to use strategic road movement, then use the "Set all to march" button, the units of nationalities that do not get to use strat road movement will also get strat road movement orders.

In the attached save game, go to Singapore.

Select a Commonwealth LCU in strat mode (there are some African infantry units there). Give it a destination of Rangoon and it will take orders to move to Rangoon by RR. Now give it orders to go to Mersing and it will not accept movement orders because Mersing is not on a railroad (but is on a primary road).

Select an Indian or British LCU in strat mode. Give it orders to move to Mersing and it will take orders to move to Mersing by RD+ (strategic road movement). Now click on "Set all to march" (or whatever the exact wording). Go look at the Commonwealth unit that you tested in the prior paragraph and you will see it has taken orders to move to Mersing by RD+.

The question I would ask first is why don't Commonwealth units get to do it by themselves? Lack of motorization? If that is so, what does the nationality of the unit have to do with anything? I would say if there is a reason why a unit can't use RD+ that it should be able to if supported by an HQ.

I noticed this also just before the end of one of my games. I "set all to march" from Udon Thani to Vinh, and the Chinese units that had railed to Udon Thani with the Brits started to move on the road also.

Like everything in any game, it is an abstraction. It's been discussed at length in the forum as to which nationalities get the RD+ ability, but it's basically as you put it - motorization.

Well that answers it. The non-motorized units put on roller skates and hold onto ropes trailing from the motorized unit's trucks. [:D]

Canadians don' need no steenking roller skates - we use logs! And spar with axes while rolling along!
