Wow....that was a very, very good sub action! My equivalent would have to be managing to sink 1-2 Allied CVs with two submarines in one day during a Guadalcanal scenario PBEM campaign. Definitely sunk one, either sunk or heavily damaged another. Congratulations!

Japanese subs are deadly.

OK. What are your BEST Sub scores? Sound off and let your glorious victories be read about here on the AAR. Come one, come ALL!

I have nothing remotely close to that. Very nice results! [8D]

If you don't mind sharing, what were the stats for the various sub commanders involved?

I think I had to put 6 sub torpedoes into the Wasp before she went down, but there was at least one dud.

Well done![:)] Keep swinging!

Just home from work. I can now CELEBRATE with an 'adult' beveridge and run the next turn.

I expect to lose Wake now. His STF successfully drove of my Fast TF so it should be pretty one-sided. Expectation is for 4-6 of his BBs to hit Wake and then retire towards Midway. As long as the Isle does not fall, he will have to keep his CVs nearby. This affords a CHANCE to hit his BBs with the diminished Kido Butai. Everything shall pend Wake's holding...

We'll know in about 45 minutes.

Tune In!

Your opponent is getting grumpy about you spoiling turn results in your messages, fyi. Hopefully Wake holds though.

Rarely say anything other then 'how's life' or 'how's the day been.' We have been planning out our vacations in some detail. Coordinating times and all that.

Here is the note I sent when the Subs scored:
The Japanese Tourism Bureau wants to lodge a protest over all the needless trouble at their newest three story hotel on Wilkes Isle. It is too noisy for the guests and the sheer numbers of men are causing serious sanitation issues. It stinks and the guests do not like this.

Does that give anything away? Certainly don't think so...

The Cruel Sea

Well...rat FARTS!

Wake falls just as I pretty much guessed it. BBs Oklahoma, West Virginia, Idaho, and Tennessee involved. He FINALLY brought in some Combat Engineers and Tanks. I am sure he had about 1,000 people telling him what to do. He does get grumpy about THAT!

His CVs launch a strike against the base just for good measure.

Soooooo...what to do?

Kido Butai is positioned to move into the sea lane between Midway and Wake. We have not been spotted.

Gonna hold a day. Bring in a fresh 18 Emily to fly search from Roi Namur. There are 12 more flying from Marcus. I just want to watch the carriers and see where they go...

Too bad on Wake. I thought it would hold. Thanks for the info by the way; and I certainly don't think that message in your email is bad at all. The only thing I could think of is that it comes across as confidently sardonic, which might give away a turn somewhat, but you'd really have to be reading much into it to get mad for that. Now, if you were saying things like "Haha I sank your carrier BANZAI!!" all the time, there might be an issue. [:D][:D]

In regards to the KB move, it's risk and I guess would depend on which way the death star is going. For the future, it might not be worth the fuel burned to mount such risky forays as you transition to the end phase off the game. But what do I know? I've never gotten to that point. [8D]

Me neither in AE. Went into 1945 in WitP and never had serious fuel issues. Nice thing here is that they were based at Marcus so haven't used much fuel at all. Cruise Speed is my friend...

I'll strike ONLY if I KNOW where those carriers are.

His grumpiness is more about past emails, he hasn't even posted about this turn yet.

The Cruel Sea

Post by John 3rd »

October 13, 1943

Evidentally nowhere on the map are Allied warships safe from the Japanese Sub Arm.

Near Portland, Aust I-28 spots a small American STF. The group steadily closes in and the LCDR fires a full salvo of his fish at CLAA Atlanta. TWO TTs and an Ammo stoage explosion result. The two DDs don't damage the sub in their counter attack.

The Japanese sub arm strikes again!

I doubt that anyone has ever duplicated this...I posted this about three years ago. Six Japanese carriers mauled on the same day. Even reading over it now makes me as "happy as a little girl."

The Cruel Sea

Am home and we are re-entering action in the Pacific.

While in South Dakota I spent about 3 hours updating my SS Log from January 1, 1943 to our current turn. Everything is hand written so I need to update the typed sheet and then post in here. It is MASSIVE. I believe that there are 16-20 individual Japanese subs with 5+ kills to their names. Have about ten who at at the 9-10 sunk ship mark. Pretty darned impressive by the looks of it. Will Post that when ready.

SS Shad. Best two day sub performance I have seen.

January 24th 1943:
Sub attack near Tabiteuea at 134,136

Japanese Ships
CV Junyo, Torpedo hits 2, heavy damage
CS Chiyoda
DD Wakaba
DD Hatsuharu
DD Isokaze
DD Kagero

Allied Ships
SS Shad

SS Shad launches 6 torpedoes at CV Junyo

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sub attack near Tabiteuea at 134,136

Japanese Ships
CV Hiyo, Torpedo hits 1
CS Chiyoda
DD Kagero
DD Wakaba
DD Hatsuharu
DD Isokaze

Allied Ships
SS Shad

SS Shad launches 6 torpedoes at CV Hiyo

And the following day:
Sub attack near Ocean Island at 130,136

Japanese Ships
CV Junyo, Torpedo hits 1, heavy damage
DD Makinami
DD Wakaba
DD Hatsuharu

Allied Ships
SS Shad, hits 3, heavy damage
The SS Shad single handedly sunk or damaged every CV from the CV Junyo class over a two day period. That commander deserves a medal or 7.

It was OK. We had two pleasant days of sight-seeing and then Wed--Thurs were BLAZING hot. Good time with family. The boys swam every day and practiced their 'whale and dolphin' imitations. VERY EXCITING!

Will grab a few pictures and Post them later.

Wrote all of my opponents (as I sent them turns) that I am somewhat concerned that eight days without a turn led me to feel pretty good. I didn't miss the games at all and that makes me a bit nervous. Found it was a relief to not stress about getting turns out to three different opponents. Probably this is realistically telling me something but I don't want to admit it.

TOTAL DENIAL!
